A man and his nephew in California got a little more than they expected when they won an auction for an abandoned storage unit.
At Cubesmart in Rancho Cordova, units are auctioned when renters default on them for longer than 45 days, according to NBC affiliate KCRA. Some people buy these units and resell them for a profit.
The two men won one of the units with an $80 bid, according to the station. However, it contained a box full of hazardous, old-fashioned equipment used to make meth.
Narcotics officers told the station that the material was so toxic, hazmat specialists had to be called out.
Sacramento County Sheriff's Department detectives are not sure if the lab was operated on site, but they are now looking for the original owners of the unit, according to KCRA.
A message for comment left with Cubesmart was not immediately returned.
Wonder if it came out of a light brown motor home?
Wonder if he gets hit with the HAZMAT disposal fee...
No telling, but some guy named Heisenberg was listed as the previous tenant.
I wonder if one of those really nice people that cross the border owned it.
YUUUUUUPPPP!!!
I wonder if the owner will come back for it. I wouldn’t want to be hanging on to it.
Never get the smell out, wonder it did not blow.
They’ll probably have the entire storage facility emptied, items impounded/inspected, taking God only knows how much time, and the renters/owner(especially the owner) will be left totally screwed in the process.
New TV show on the way: “Breaking Bad Storage Wars”.
Knowing this environment, I wouldn’t doubt if Big Brother immediately slammed the winning bidders / OWNERS, in jail, emptied their financial accounts, charged them with the clean up, and ruined their lives.
And you would never her a thing about it .
Shot their dogs too.
I used watch Storage Wars on A&E, until I woke up and came to my senses it’s scripted.
There was a episode the same thing happened. The meth cook won his locker back.
It was obvious what it was, but they laughed it off. It absorbed it as manufacturing reality tv.
"The couple who bought a nearby unit belonging to the same previous owners could not be reached for comment, and appear to have moved."
YUUUUUUUP!
hahah! beat me.
