James Bond writer says Adrian Lester would be a better Bond than Idris Elba; Twitter explodes; Update: Horowitz apologizes
Folks are furious today at Anthony Horowitz, the British novelist chosen by Ian Fleming’s family to continue write James Bond novels, and some comments he made about the appropriateness of black actor Idris Elba as the next James Bond. First up, here is what Horowitz is quoted as saying in an interview he gave to the Daily Mail:

I can’t even remember the last new James Bond movie I saw.
I haven’t seen any of the Daniel Craig ones, and I never will.
And I most certainly am not going to watch any affirmative action James Bonds either.

I think it’s more than that.
Bond is the product of a classic British education.
For a black actor to try and pull that off, he would look “wimpy”.
A white actor can do it and look suave, and tough all at the same time.
The only black actor who could have ever pulled off Bond was (maybe) Sidney Portier.
Idris Elba is a fine actor, but not meant to play Bond. No way.
