The thrilling follow-up to the New York Times bestselling novel One Second After

Months before publication, William R. Forstchen’s One Second After was cited on the floor of Congress as a book all Americans should read. Hundreds of thousands of people have read the tale. One Year After is the thrilling follow-up to that smash hit.

The story picks up a year after One Second After ends, two years since the detonation of nuclear weapons above the United States brought America to its knees. After suffering starvation, war, and countless deaths, the survivors of Black Mountain, North Carolina, are beginning to piece back together the technologies they had once taken for granted: electricity, radio communications, and medications. They cling to the hope that a new national government is finally emerging.

Then comes word that most of the young men and women of the community are to be drafted into an “Army of National Recovery” and sent to trouble spots hundreds of miles away.

Please, please recommend more in that genre. My favorite was Lucifer’s Hammer. The sequels to Patriots were awful.

Dirk Patton’s V Plague series is great, particularly if you are a fan of military hero, dystopian fiction. I am presently on Book 8, so that should tell you something. :)

What happened to him other than going mental over losing WILSON!!!!!!

He put off going to the dentist, and while he was marooned on the island the tooth cracked, got infected, and caused him tremendous pain.

It was a Hollywood movie, but they had survival instructors as technical consultants. And they say that health problems put off until a survival situation arises can become life threatening.

However, print out skills and how tos so you'll have them when your computer doesn't work.

Amen. I've lost power before, and turning back to books is becoming a lost art.

That’s a very nice machete but its also good to have some cheap ones from the flea market. I have two that have lasted for years. Plastic handles.

I have used my machetes for yard work in the last month

Harbor Freight sells some for as low as $5. You can get good ones on sale for as low as $35 or so.

But K Bar makes great stuff. That’s why the Marines have used K Bar for decades.

Of course they do. But I like having average stuff too and maybe a few .....for backup. I see Harbor Freight has a serrated machete. I will look for it next time I am in the store.....hope its not just a mail order item.

driftdiver:" They aren’t high altitude nor are they over a city, nor are they involving modern electronics."

Exactly my point !

They were high altitude and over a city. Only the area directly under the EMP was affected, not the whole country.
