Nazca plate moving on down.
Cool.
I envy you for being there. A place I would like to go before I kick off.
I think a report of a massive earthquake anywhere in the world belongs in News forum, not Chit chat
Looks like someone flushed a toilet
I agree. I thought thats where I put it when I posted it. Some moderators do have a different definition of news though so maybe it was moved.
That won’t bother Guam too much as it is coming to the high side of the island. It would have to 150 - 200 feet high to get over the cliffs in the center of the island. Down South might be a bit of a small problem
Look at the graph wave form (rate of change) - Straight up.
My guess is that is instrument problems.
I’m NOT an oceanographer, but I once visited a Holiday Inn Express, I have seen the Ocean and I have Graph paper on the shelf above the desk at which I now sit.
Eat your heart out, Al Gore, at such impressive scientific credentials!
Be 12 or so hours for it to get there
Graph paper??? You must be truly wise!

Yes, it had been in News--and I also agree with the two of you.
I haven’t read all the messages, but I was wondering if there has been any discussion re higher water in the San Diego area ..??

1st week on the job?
My local station, KUSI said that it didn’t seem to have that much affect in San Diego, but they were still watching for it in the LA area beaches.
But, the latest is .. there was nothing to report.
It could be that the quake was not that deep .. but I don’t have the stats on that.
You mean it won't tip over?
As I recall, the depth of the big quake was 16 miles down and the most shallow aftershock was 6.2 miles down. Deep but not unusually deep. The Boxing Day Quake was, as you say, very shallow with a lot of underwater ground movement.
Hmmmm ..?? That’s pretty deep for it not to cause more of a Tsunami ..?? Or am I showing I don’t know what I’m talking about ..??
Oh, be brave .. answer that.
The real tsunami machine of a subduction zone is found where the movement is concentrated near the surface when the ocean plate moves down and the land side “bounces” back. If I recall the upper side of the fault in the Boxing Day Tsunami moved some 8 meters when the tension which had been holding it up. So shallow quakes generally affect us more.
You don't know the half of it! I actually have Isometric graph paper, Quartile/Quintile Graph paper and Hexagonal graph paper!
(I'm really into graph... I used to be a politician...who can't spell!) ;-)
