Dems Reject McConnell Amendment Demanding U.S. Hostage Release From Iran

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's (R-KY) attempt to pass an amendment to halt President Obama's Iran deal by demanding the release of four American hostages in Iran and to recognize Israel's right to exist has been rejected by Democrats.

Senators voted 53-45 on an amendment from Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) that would have prevented President Obama from lifting sanctions on Iran until the country releases American prisoners and publicly recognizes Israel's right to exist. Sixty votes were needed to move forward.

Many conservatives have argued that the Obama administration is putting Israel's security at risk by giving Iran a sure path to a nuclear bomb by easing sanctions and leaving it up to Iran to inspect their own nuclear sites. They also accuse the administration of abandoning the four Americans currently being held against their will in Iran by leaving them out of the nuclear discussions.

Despite these concerns, Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) told Republicans to give it up because the nuclear agreement isn't going anywhere.

“What the Republican colleagues are doing right now is very, very cynical,” he added. “They’re taking serious issues and turning them into pawns in a political issue.”

I may be misinformed here but can’t McConnell go nuclear and filibuster this thing.

Hang every one of their votes around their treasonous necks.

And let them explain to the Jews in the United States why they want to give $150 billion of our money to a country which not only refuses to acknowledge Israel’s right to exist, but is plainly planning to snuff out that existence.

Then tell me again why Wasserman-Snivel can go on TV and tear up about her “Jewish family” while selling them into annihilation.

I would love to see Trump go after McConnell. Then watch Yeb Bush rush to defend McConnell!

This should be loudly and repeatedly publicized. Priebus McConnell and Boehner allow many such GOP proposals to sink into the black waters, unheard, unobserved.

John and Megyn McCain, this is what you should be chattering about right now, not Trump’s hair or Carly’s dress choices.

Just the opposite, Turtle man needs to go nuclear and suspend the filibuster so the amendment can be passed with a simple majority. The Dems are able to block anything with 41 votes the way things stand now

And what about those who are kidnapped by Iran? Dems don’t think that is serious?

Yes, he could. I don’t see why he won’t. If ever there were an issue that is vital to the country, this is it.

As McConnell expected. If he thought it would pass he would have squashed it and not allowed it to be raised.

He can go nuclear and pass a resolution of disapproval with 51 votes, which at this point is meaningless anyway.

Last week he put up such a resolution and and Dems filibustered it. He could have stopped that filibuster by going nuclear but he is too much of a pussy.

What he and Boehner BOTH could still do is attach a rider to the upcoming budget bill saying, fine, we all agree on this budget, BUT we stipulate that the Iran deal does not go into effect until we see the whole deal, including secret agreements, until we get the right to unlimited inspections, until our hostages are released, and until Iran agrees to recognize Israel's right to exist.

But they won't do that because all they really want to do is put a meaningless bill like this one up so they can claim to have tried to disapprove the deal, etc. etc.

They think we are so f'ing stupid we will accept that horrific, ugly, deadly lie and, what's worse, they don't give a damn about Israel or even the security of the U.S.A.

They are trading our lives and especially our soldiers lives for a smokescreen. McConnell is an open enemy of our nation and its people.

“Boy, now Dems will be revealed as the dishonest, Israel-hating frauds they really are,” said someone who hasn’t noticed how American politics really works.

Sounds like “an exercise in futility” to me.

Maybe he’ll try this on defunding #PlannedButcherhood...oh, wait...

I would even give up a some of my testosterone to little Mickey to go nuclear if I thought it might work but have decided nothing would work on him except driving a solid titanium stake down his back for rigidity and then paint over the yellow stripe.

Why doesn’t the Republican senate just end the 60 vote rule?
