Ryan: The House Will Vote to "Pause" Syrian Refugee Program
Townhall ^ | 11/17/2015 | Cortney O'Brien

Posted on 11/17/2015 11:05:41 AM PST by conservativejoy

With America's national security in mind, House Speaker Paul Ryan announced Tuesday morning his wish to "pause" the White House's plan to accept 100,000 Syrian refugees by 2017. The House, he said, will vote on corresponding legislation as soon as possible.

"This is a moment where it is better to be safe than to be sorry, so we think the prudent, the responsible thing is to take a pause in this particular aspect of this refugee program in order to verify that terrorists are not trying to infiltrate the refugee population," Ryan told reporters.

Ryan's sentiment is echoed by 30 governors who say they will refuse to accept Syrian refugees.

The recent tragedy in Paris demands action from our leaders. Halting the refugee program is just the first common sense step. The speaker, like many Americans, scoffs at Obama's belief that ISIS is contained and our current strategy is the right one.

"A containment plan is not enough," Ryan said. That has failed."

Kudos to Ryan for voicing what the president obviously couldn't , we need a swift and new response to cripple ISIS. Our current anti-terror campaign has barely left a scratch.

“30 governors who say they will refuse to accept Syrian refugees.”

Who are these Governors?

Governors cannot do much except to not take federal money for refugee settlement or provide any State resources.

But they can and should deal with their Senators. Both represent the State.

To get an override there will need to be Democrats who vote to override and Governors of their states will need to play a role.

Hopefully "pause' is just a nice way of saying end. It will never get unpaused.

Given the GOP track record, I suspect he has enough RINOS lined up to vote against it with the Democrats so that it fails. Then he’ll toss his hands up, proclaim that he tried, but the votes just weren’t there.

A “pause” is fine with me - they can do a policy review in, say, a thousand years.

It's just plain smart. Any Republican who votes against it can still be primaried. Any dem who votes against it can be framed as a supporter of the global spread of terrorism.

I'm assuming funding for relocating refugees is being taken out of the budget. Otherwise, it's just another insult from the puppetmasters, to patronize and ignore those who want to save the US.

That's OK too. It would would help guarantee the next President is not a democrat.

I don't see any mention in your link of the missing "refugee" being found in Washington, DC.

Did I miss something?

I'm not so sure ... if Hillary is in jail she would still get 47% of the vote.

Al,TX plus 28 other Governors.

Anyone who looks at the link will know the bastards are not refugees. Hell, they are military age and are mostly male. Many of us on FR figured this out awhile ago.

A governor is the head of a sovereign state. He has vast power. He can call up the national guard. He can detain and remove people from his state and he can sue in the Federal Court tying up the President in litigation for years.

Obama might not want to cross too many governors. They could very well ban him from their states. He could force a serious constitutional crisis.
