If my name were Mohammed I’d been approved before I got out of the store.

My understanding is that in most states if you are not a CCW permit holder there’s a mandatory waiting period. May be Federal?

Not true.

The main advantage of gun shows is REALLY GOOD PRICES.

Imagine if you had someone making threats against your life.

Gun sales have been booming for some time now. No doubt "Paris incident" will increase sales. Nearly 500 killed and wounded and no one had a gun. And next week Black Friday. Holiday sales sometimes trip up NICS. Even shut it down.

And Obama has stated he intends to begin new crack down on guns next year. People are reacting to all this. Obama is the best gun salesman in the world....

if you are already decided on a GLOCK i’d go with the 26 over the 43. the 26 is my usual winter carry when i have less control over clothing. summer is shorts, aloha shirt and 19. i have a 42 (.380) for deep carry and around the house carry. i shot the 43 but, given i already have the 42, deferred on buying it and put the money toward ammo and training.
mt buying background checks are 20 minutes or so but i do have my permit.

Do a private sale next time. No NICS check, no BS.

I too think the Paris attack has caused a spike in gun sales.

Hmmm. Just bought a pistol myself today. Mine came back within 2 minutes. Is it possibly state related? Do you live in a blue state? Just brainstorming here.

That’s what I like about Louisiana. A 2015 ccw permit is approved as a background check. No need to run me. Just let them xeeox it and put it on file.

Same in Texas.

Since you mentioned ex-wives, is it possible that there may be an old TRO popping up under your name? Those have been known to cause trouble for guys, especially if the name is somewhat common.

Word from people in the know is that the NICS system is being overwhelmed with background checks. You won’t see it in the media but after Paris, people are buying guns in record numbers. Lots of first time buyers too.

The other possibility is someone with the same last and first name is in the system as a criminal and you got flagged. It usually works out fine though so be patient. Keep us posted so we can see if system works as it should.

This again - Jed nailed it. NICS is not set up for excess volume that occurs every so often due to something like Paris or the usual gun control drivel.

Another vote for the Glock 19 - excellent pistol that is probably the best compromise between size and capacity right out of the box that you can find.

Opinions vary - but if you go 9mm you cannot go wrong with Winchester 115g silvertip ammunition.

Great round that does more damage than heavier 9mm ammo.

That happens around here where are two people with the same name...one of whom might not be spotless. The hold goes on and they have time to physically look to make sure.

Exactly. I have plenty of protection. But think of those who don’t.

What about...let’s say a woman who is being stalked?

What about a woman who is trying to get out of a abusive relationship?

What about a black person in a horrible neighborhood?

What about a person who has commute to work. Maybe working midnights or evenings and has to get home late at night. Or go to work late at night?

I could go on. But for Democrates to say they are for the rights of women, minorities, and to deny them the right to self defense...should be indefensible.

I’m lucky. And I know it. White privilege? Right.......

If you have never been in the situation where you have to decide to kill someone, or not, then that is surely not a privilege.

Here comes a story.......Back in my younger days me and a buddy were riding around town and stopped at a popular spot. We were talking to some girls and this truck backs up behind me and blocks me in. I had my pistol right between the seats. I think I was about 20y.o.

I can’t go forward, can’t go back. This huge guy, big beard, big ole redneck, opens drivers side door, pulls a revolver, and braces on the open door and tells me “I’m gonna kill you you S.O.B.” and then drops the gun. Hit’s the pavement on the lot.

By all rights, I should have killed him. One of his buddies runs over, apologizes, grabs the gun and they leave. The next day the guy makes the effort to call me, apologize, say’s he had a rough day. His wife left him, or something, I can’t remember exactly. And thanks me for not killing him.

Anyway. I’m bad about telling stories. But that is 100% true. And I’m sure glad I didn’t have to kill him.

The point is. Carrying a weapon is a huge responsibility. And if you decide to carry then that is the first thing you need to know.
