Steve Goodman wrote that one, of course, but Arlo made if famous.

He wrote some good ones.

I was drunk the day my mom got out of prison. And I went to pick up her in the rain. But before I could get to the station in my pickup truck. She got run over by a damned old train. {You never even called me by my name aka The perfect country and western song Steve Goodman & David Allan Coe.}

One of my personal Steve Goodman favorites is ‘A Cub Fan’s Dying Request’. It is really an anthem for the poor Cubbies. Sadly, we lost Mr Goodman to leukemia in the autumn of 1984. Loved his music.
