Donald Trump Is Fighting...But For What?
Conservative Review ^ | 12/14/2015 | Daniel Horowitz

Posted on 12/14/2015 2:06:33 PM PST by conservativejoy

Donald Trump has performed a service for conservatives by being willing to fight the GOP establishment and draw attention to important issues. He has sparked a much needed national debate about overall immigration levels, a border fence, and the absurd policy of unqualified birthright citizenship for illegal aliens. Conservative voters, and indeed most Americans, want a fighter. Trump has been selling himself as that refreshing change, a warrior who will fight political correctness and the political establishment.

With that said, one has to ask what happened to Trump over the weekend. He has repeatedly attacked Ted Cruz for, not kissing up to the establishment. He has also attacked Justice Scalia for…not being politically correct! So what exactly is Trump fighting for?

Judicial tyranny and religious liberty are among the top issues that divide the party base from the political class, yet Trump has been largely silent on those issues.

Over the weekend, Trump assailed Cruz for not supporting venture socialism in the form of ethanol mandates and subsidies. Trump likes to say that our politicians are a bunch of dummies. He is absolutely correct. There is nothing dumber and more establishment than using the boot of government to coerce consumers into shoving corn into their fuel tanks, thereby raising the cost of fuel and food, all to benefit a horde of wealthy special interests. Really, Donald? Why throw in with the Washington cartel when you’ve been so rewarded for taking them on?

Another dumb and unconstitutional policy of the political dummies Trump so passionately inveighs against is affirmative action. Last week, the entire political Left had a meltdown when Justice Scalia quoted some briefs submitted in an affirmative action case (Fisher v. University of Texas) based on peer-reviewed academic studies, noting that some African American students (or other groups and individuals) who are placed in higher level academic settings exclusively based on quotas will often perform worse than in a classroom more suited to their needs. The PC crowd howled racism for days! Amazingly, Donald Trump joined the wimp brigade, placing political correctness over rational discourse, saying Scalia was "very tough" on "that community" and that he disagreed with him. Really, Donald?

Scalia is a national treasure on the level of our Founders. It would be nice if Trump would let us know what type of judges he would appoint. Judicial tyranny and religious liberty are among the top issues that divide the party base from the political class, yet Trump has been largely silent on those issues.

Trump then referred to Cruz as "a little bit of a maniac" in terms of how he deals with his fellow senators. Really, Donald? I thought these were the stupid, pathetic dummies you plan to put in their places? What exactly did Cruz do wrong with regard to Mitch McConnell? In what way would you handle McConnell differently?

Here is some free advice from someone who has greatly appreciated what Trump has done on the issue of immigration, at least in terms of elevating the prominence of the issue: If you really think Cruz will go the way of the other candidates you butted heads with, and desire to affect that outcome, attack him from the right in a legitimate way. But if you are going to hit him from the left and side with the political class on key issues, especially as it relates to political correctness, you will lose your entire appeal of speaking truth and common sense.

EXACTLY!!! Apparently many people do not care “for what.” They just want the biggest rabid dog they can get. Wanna bet he ends up biting them, too?

That big rabid dog is the only reason you have a say in this election. How quickly we forget our frustration when we can't fight the GOP and they rule with an iron fist.

I know some of you are now looking for a lapdog, cocker spaniel or poodle. You'll soon find out how that cutie holds up against the pit bull that is our media and GOPe.

Correct. I didn’t say you said it. But it’s ridiculous, whoever says it.

Trump was looking for a reason to go after Cruz and now he is looking for a reason to go third party and take his little cult following with him. Current polling strongly suggests that the only way Hillary wins is if the other side is split.

I have long felt that Trump was nothing more than a Democrat plant

I remember the last time a Clinton had the Dem nomination and a loudmouth billionaire ran as a third party candidate to split the GOP vote. --- I'm just sayin'

"Hillary should be in prison for what she did"? Nope!

You do realize that Hillary's base support doesn't care, right? The only way she wins is if the Republican Party is severely fractured. I thing that is really what was discussed with Bill all those many months ago and is what Trump is working for.

Methinks Donald failed to think this thing all the way through.

S.O.P. for him.

Please check out who the self-proclaimed Very Conservative and Somewhat Conservative people voted for in this poll.

It's on page two in a box with vote breakdown.

This is going to be a rude awakening for those who think only moderate Republicans support Trump.

Trump: 41 - 45

Cruz: 26 - 8

Trump says he likes Justice Thomas...I can live with that.

There are things that Scalia says and does that give me pause

The really cool thing about politics, is that you can lie all day long to get the job, even cheat if you want to. Once you win, you can do whatever you want without paying any attention to whatever promises you made to get elected. Possible scenarios:
  1. Trump wins all the way thru: He'll be more like Bill Clinton than you could possibly imagine.
  2. Trump wins the primary: He'll then sandbag his campaign in favor of Hillary.
  3. Trump loses the primary and runs Independent and pulls a Perot, in favor of Hillary.
  4. Trump loses in the primary and gracefully bows out. (What are the chances?)
Keep this handy and I'll admit I'm wrong if I am. In 2008, I predicted that 0bama would not willingly leave office in Jan, 2017. I still stand by that prediction.

Thank you for reminding us Trump is an international real estate investment and management mogul.

Next you’ll be telling us Trump goes out and picks out the exact nails and equipment that will be used on each of his sites.

You guys from the GOPe are so funny...

Operating on gut instincts and New York velocity insults have served Trump very well so far in terms of opinion polls. Meanwhile his admirers are beginning to resemble a sort of mirror image of this famous brain dead groupie, that is a caricature of fawning fandom. All that might carry him through to the nomination. But his candle is burning awfully bright and saying whatever pops into your head without thinking through the consequences is a risky way to run a marathon length campaign.
