Taking a Stand On the Gun Debate
Houston Chronicle ^ | 12-24-15 | Mat Thompson

I am a lifelong sportsman. I grew up in Texas, hunting with my Dad. I'm not sure if I learned how to ride a bike or shoot a gun first, but it was close either way. In addition to creating lifelong memories shooting and hunting with my father, I was educated on gun safety from a very early age. I was taught well, and became a very responsible gun owner and enjoyed sport shooting and hunting into my adult years.

But then something started to change. I don't quite know what happened; it just seemed that firearms started becoming faster, more powerful and more plentiful. Mass shootings became more common and much deadlier.

Then, in 2012, Sandy Hook happened.

I had recently become a father, and like every other father I hugged my kid just a little tighter that night. Then I walked into the living room, and started to cry. All those children, not much older than my daughter, murdered. Humans have a unique capacity for being truly awful to each other, but a more senseless tragedy cannot be imagined.

That night, I called a few of my friends who I knew to be responsible gun owners and gave away the guns I owned.

"Then, in 2012, Sandy Hook happened. "

Did it? If so, what has been really documented to have happened?

“I am a lifelong sportsman. I grew up in Texas, hunting... “.

The second amendment is not about hunting. He just gave up his ability to protect his family.

I love it: ANY attempt to regulate abortion is called a violation of abortion rights, even though the Constitution is silent about abortion.

ANY attempt at border control is called a violation of civil rights, even though the Constitution says we can control our border.

But all kinds of laws banning who can own guns, what kind of weapons can be sold, who can get them, where they can be sold is all okay, even though the Constitution guarantees the right to own and keep weapons.

I love Obamaland.
I’m so happy these people are running our country.

Well - if you didn’t like it, you’d vote against it eh? :)

And I am glad I was stocked up on .22 because it has been pretty hard to find since then.

How does this guy think he’ll defend his family?

Seven jobs since 2009 per his LinkedIn

Sounds like Mat has a few more problems than just family safety

“it just seemed that firearms started becoming faster, more powerful and more plentiful.”

I’m calling BS on him knowing anything about guns. He’s a liar.

I don't expect my choice or my position to change any minds.

He shouldn't expect his choice or position to change reality either, which is that evil exists and that at some point he may have to confront it in a life-or-death situation.

I am sorry he thought he might use them in a fit of anger or drugged miasma to hurt or kill his family, his community, or himself. But if so, good move. His thoughts seem to be getting more and more irrational. Maybe he ought to think about committing himself into a psychiatric facility as well. Seriously.

Hey Mat,

You still wet the bed, don’t you?

Maybe you and your wife should both start seeing other men.

(thanks to whomever made that graphic about Trump scaring the bedwetters)
