WILL 2016 BE THE YEAR ELON MUSK REVEALS HIS MARS COLONIAL TRANSPORTER PLANS?
Universe Today ^ | January 1, 2016 | Nancy Atkinson

There are several space stories we’re anticipating for 2016 but one story might appear — to some — to belong in the realm of science fiction: sometime in the coming year Elon Musk will likely reveal his plans for colonizing Mars.

Early in 2015, Musk hinted that he would be publicly disclosing his strategies for the Mars Colonial Transport system sometime in late 2015, but then later said the announcement would come in 2016.

I would rather subsidize a trip to Mars than about 90 percent of the rest of the federal budget.

Musk wouldn't be anywhere without the tax dollars that was handed over to him.

People can criticize Musk for a lot, including Tesla's and Solar City's business models. I do. But to say that he wouldn't be anywhere without tax dollars is not true. He was already a billionare from starting PayPal before he started Spacex.

No, they’d run out of juice after 60 miles.

My proposal, give our prisoners freedom if they are willing to relocate to Mars. One catch though, they’re not permitted to return to Earth.

All the hot air that they’d spew would build an atmosphere and warm the planet in a matter of weeks. Plus we’d solve much of our “man made global warming” here on Earth!

This is so stupid. I have extensive plans and ideas regarding the colonization of space, and Mars is not even on the low priority list. Struggling to get out of one gravity well simply so you can drop into another gravity well is a brain-dead use of resources.

Mars ain’t no kind of place to raise your kids. . . .

(Can’t believe it took this long for someone to post that.)

Very impressive. He’s solved the problem with space radiation, lack of gravity, water and air, and a host of other glitches.

How nifty is that. /s

Musk gets tax CREDITS. That doesn’t “cost” taxpayers a dime, it reduces taxes - a core conservative principle. (Yes, it’s not “across the board” tax cuts, but under current circumstances that’s the best we can do.) Like the popular mortgage interest tax credit, use it as an example of how beneficial lower taxes are to innovation and productivity.

The government isn’t writing Musk big check with your money.

Did the government give him money? or just not require him to pay that in taxes? There’s a difference.
