Windows 7 runs on 55% of all the computers on the planet, but according to news this week that is actually a bad and potentially dangerous thing. Says who? Actually Microsoft. . .
Speaking to Windows Weekly, Microsoft Marketing chief Chris Capossela explained that users who choose Windows 7 do so "at your own risk, at your own peril" and he revealed Microsoft has concerns about its future software and hardware compatibility, security and more.
"We do worry when people are running an operating system that's 10 years old that the next printer they buy isn't going to work well, or they buy a new game, they buy Fallout 4, a very popular game, and it doesn't work on a bunch of older machines," Capossela stated. "And so, as we are pushing our ISV [Independent Software Vendor] and hardware partners to build great new stuff that takes advantage of Windows 10 that obviously makes the old stuff really bad and not to mention viruses and security problems."
He also stressed it is "so incredibly important to try to end the fragmentation of the Windows install base" and to get users to a "safer place."
There's only one problem with Capossela's statements: they are complete rubbish.

Just a scare tactic to get people to upgrade to Windows 10 with all the new government spyware already programmed into it.
God bless’em - every time they come out with a new OS, they tell us how good the new one is and how bad the old one is so they can sell more of the new one - at least 60% of the time they are right about the old one sucking....
I put Win 10 on a spare machine. Sure enough, some stuff I need to use (legacy) will not work on 10. My Windows PCs are not connected to the internet except for one machine running a very specific application. All general internet use (browsing and email) is done with Linux. For Windows I will stick with XP and 7.
Exactly—that’s what they want so you can get their latest spyware version. ;)
Trying to push W10 are they?
Wonder how hard Microsoft is trying to get the IRS off Windows XP?
Or all those SWEET taxpeasant dollars for insane legacy support just too good to pass up...?
Now they are trying to bum-rush us into loading their Windoze 10, with all of its NSA-complaint “security” features.
Not going to do it. Rather go to Linux.
The problem I’ve run into is the opposite. The legacy printers won’t support 10. Why? The printer manufacturers of older printers want you to buy a new one. So check your printer model before upgrading, folks.
The gruberment must have some deal with Microsoft to get ALL the peasants on Windows 10, so they can be monitored 24/7/365.
The deal, such as it was ( think Godfather, an offer they could not refuse ) probably occurred between fall 2004 and spring 2005 when the Longhorn ( eventually released as Vista ) beta code had a dramatic alteration after a long period of frozen stasis.
Folks on the outside speculated that it was 9/11 related but did not get any firm evidence until a couple years ago when Microsoft was confirmed as having been the first and primary PRISM partner with NoSuchAgency. Allegedly they signed up in 2007, but that in itself may be a smokescreen and is close enough to the Longhorn/Vista fiasco to be significant.
It should be noted that Hollywood approved DRM ( protected content path ) was infamously introduced in Vista and almost sunk the product from the outcry. Their willingness to bend over for the Hollywood mafia demonstrated just how fast they would drop trow and bend over for FedGov, especially if the agencies approaching them were draped in the flag of 9/11 and anti-terrorism.
Of course this also means that all the other companies likely did the exact same thing eventually. Anyone who distrusts the entire industry is not without merit, even if they get accused of tinfoil or whatever. Almost everything they feared has already happened.
And it continues on. I mean, if someone set out to design a new way to check everything at will, where the sheeple march to them, they might just come up with a fabulous concept and call it a cloud, or facebook ...
I recently upgraded to Win10 an old Win7 (Starter) netbook with 1GB memory.
Results on this very limited netbook?
1. Noticeably faster
2. Much more stable
Next up is my business Win8.1 UltraBook
btw, my current 8.1 was upgraded from Win7 - YUGE improvement in every area.
Turn off automatic update.
When Windows 7 no longer suits my needs. . . I will move to Ubuntu or Linux Mint. . .
Man oh man is MS ever trying to push Win10 adoption or what?
Mine too. I have just removed my XP box from the internet, set up a second box with Linux Mint and use a KVM to switch between the two. Working like da bomb so far.
Thanks to Swordmaker for the ping!!
Been a while since the last "Lookie how many activations now!!!" message...
I concur! And they just said Windows 7 completely sucks. So why did they want everybody on it in the first place?
Because, of the 1400 software titles my company uses I can count on one hand the applications that Linux can run.
