TRUE HISTORY OF THE WAR FOR SOUTHERN INDEPENDENCE IN THIS AGE OF POLITICAL CORRECTNESS there has never been a greater need and greater opportunity to refresh our understanding of what happened in America in the years 1861-1865 and start defending our Southern forebears as strongly as they ought to be defended. There is plenty of true history available to us. It is our job to make it known. All the institutions of American society, including nearly all Southern institutions and leaders, are now doing their best to separate the Confederacy off from the rest of American history and push it into one dark little corner labelled "Slavery and Treason". Being taught at every level of the educational system is the official party line that everything good that we or anyone believe about our Confederate ancestors is a myth, and by myth they mean a pack of lies that Southerners thought up to excuse their evil deeds and defeat....

Remember how he boldly freed the slaves in Maryland, at the war's outset in 1861?
Oh, wait...
Oh, and what a true POS it is.
I actually read it because I try to be open minded, but that work was closer to Zinn’s even greater POS ‘People's History of the United States.’
Your post had me concerned for a moment.
I have not read this book but perhaps someday, as indeed I do try to remain objective.
OK i get it now...i’m slow to the table, but i usually depart with a full stomach.
For the most part, correct.
I would say acquisition of power and/or wealth would be at the bottom of any aggression of one group of humans against another. Money alone wouldn’t explain the true motivations of those engaging in Islamic Jihad, would it?
No, he just jailed the Maryland state legislature instead.
I actually fully agree that we are in the “midst of the anti-South hysteria currently infecting the American psyche”, as the ad premises.
But the Southron lost cause myths are revisionist histories by sore losers that ironically were taken up and accepted and modified for their own purposes by the communists and hard left.
Even now there is often a strange consonance among libertarian and so-called far right groups and the hard left.
The Muslims and their leader in the Spite House aren't playing for mere money.
They're playing for ALL THE MARBLES. Win those, and you have all the money.
Look at the Saudi hypocrites, before whom 0Muslim bows...
This book is not ‘revisionist’ history, it is just history with some editorial.
BTTT
Apu! (digression from Civil War subject) I have not watched him in many years, but still remember almost verbatim: There was the episode where he and many on the show attended the art school, Marjory was learning painting I think, and she and Apu bumped into each other on campus, Apu was taking a writing course ... A: “I long to tell the story, of an idealistic young hindu, pushed TOO far, by convenience store bandits” M: “Oh Apu! That’s a wonderful idea what are you going to call it?” A: “I call it ‘Get Your Hands of My Jerky, Turkey’” M: “Oh that’s a wonderful name” A: “Oh, well, actually my brother Sanju thought of it.”
“People assign every possible motivation for going to war. The bottom line is always, every time and forever, money.”
You guys are probably unaware that this view is pure Marx.
The left assigns all motivation as economic.
The Southron revisionists are strongly Marxist in their analysis.
I'm talking about respecting men who bled for the strength of their convictions.
Modern Pajamaboyz who attack the Confederate veterans from their modern-day Safe Space deserve to have the teeth slapped out of their lying faces for their cowardly propaganda.
Is it the typical Southron lost cause Marxism?
Or is it actually objective and interesting?
It’s not marketed that way. It’s marketed as if for a pre-existing sub-culture, like left winger books are marketed.
Get over your bad self, Pajamaboy*.

*[Since Pajamaboy is a Metrosexual, and of indeterminate sex, the phrase can also refer to Progressive women. Think "It's Pat!"]
You’ve been dismissed, Pajamaboygirl.
I have been a southerner for quite a while now, but i have never heard the Confederacy compared to marxism. I think that the opposite is true. the northern totalitarian aggressive abuse of a free and sovereign Christian people in the South resembles the acts of marxists.
“Yes, but that is irrelevant”
Good comeback.
People assign every possible motivation for going to war. The bottom line is always, every time and forever, money.
...
Well, there was Big Cotton.
But on an individual level it was more complex. Robert E. Lee was against secession, was tolerant of slavery, but not a proponent. The deciding factor for him was loyalty to his state, even though the Union offered him a nice commission which his wife wanted him to take.
In the big picture though, the Union offered generous comprises to avoid war, but the rebels wanted nothing but a fight. As Sherman said, War is the remedy that our enemies have chosen, and I say let us give them all they want.
“People assign every possible motivation for going to war. The bottom line is always, every time and forever, money.”
So true, so true.
I am a southerner, yet, I freely admit both the North, the South, and Lincoln, had financial interests in the war. The regional ideologies were nothing but manifestations of their financial interests.
Every single war in the history of the world had a financial motivator behind it. Even for the muslims today they expect rewards for their actions.
The Civil War was mainly fought over cotton...granted slavery was a part of the wedge put forth by Northerner’s ...the competition from the industrializing North with all the new immigrants were competing against the Southern states who had a great product in huge demand which at one point was more than a 5th of our nation’s GDP at the time. I am in the middle of reading a book on this very topic printed in 1960 . It is highly illustrated along with concise and factual text that seems to be without any bias either way. It is “The American Heritage picture history of The American Civil War” I would recommend this for grandchildren “IF” they are even taught this in school anymore.
