I consider myself to work with plenty of smart people. Some staunch conservatives, others moderate. But being that this is a financial business, most are not liberal.
So the following came up at lunch today with a person recently away from news on vacation.
Person: Anything exciting happen with Trump? Me: Not really Person: I can't believe he's still around Me: Why? Person: He's so obnoxious. You wouldn't vote for him would you? Me: Of course. 7 days a week if he's against Hillary. Person: If it's the two of them, I'm not voting.
What do you think? Isn't this a real problem? A lower turnout can only help the Beast.
People with businesses who have pragmatic views donate $50,000 to Rahm Emanuel, much like the small shopkeeper in some large cities "donates" money to the local mob.
The pragmatic ones don't want to here the "Nice business ya got here. Be a shame if government regulations happened to it." speech.
I’ve been saying this for months, Trump will win in a landslide even with all the purists staying home. Trump will have crossover Reagan democrat voters, Cruz will not have that crossover effect.
A former liberal Democrat named "Reagan" did something similar, didn't he? :)
If your Wife is for Bernie, I hope you had her sign an IRONCLAD PRENUP reviewed by Trump’s Lawyers. LOL
Pragmatism is a political philosophy of the American left. Conservatives can’t be pragmatists for several reasons. Mainly, because conservatives believe their overall philosophy is the way things are. If you don’t, then it’s okay to tweak things for the greater good. Many business people have Christian/conservative ethics that prevent them from giving to disgusting traitors like Rahm Emanuel and Terry McAuliffe. Maybe they’re not billionaires, but being a billionaire with situational ethics shouldn’t impress us. There are too many of those people. We call them crony capitalists.
Not to mention Sid Blumenthal on the Supreme Court!
Perfection is not an option.
Everyone is evil to some extent.
How did you feel about Reagan? He was a Democrat before he was a Republican. He signed a gun control measure in California that haunts us to this day. He signed on to Amnesty.
Are you saying that we would have been better off with a Carter second term?
When you are losing you fight while retreating. You do not simply run away.
Elections are only the tip of the iceberg. We have to fight the cultural and institutional battles as well.
Once Trump is dispensed with, The Media will park its trusted old "news" battlewagons offshore [figuratively] and rain 16 inch shells down on Cruz until he's smoking rubble.
I don't take advice from greenhorns, kid.
Your wasting your time.
Romney would have been just as bad as Obama. I’ve read it right here on FR, over and over again. Yep, worse than Obama, really. No, I mean really worse, really...
Not Voting for the Republican in the General Election guarantees you end up with the Democrat who is always worse, always. Some people here think otherwise. #;^)
Of course you wouldn’t take advice from me. If you cared to educate yourself, you wouldn’t have a slipshod political philosophy that teaches pragmatism as a virtue.
I'm coming up on 19 years on Free Republic in March.
I don't need advice from snot-nosed kids from the Repple-Depple.
That would be YOU.
Trump is helping to fix the culture already by dismantling PC. He’s the only one with the balls and the teflon coating to successfully dismantle PC (aka cultural marxism)
Exactly. Until we destroy that, conservatism CANNOT move forward on the field of battle.
No one I am aware of, including myself (though I am regularly accuses of it) has ever called for, much drew a red line at perfection.
No, everyone is not evil to some extent. Evil is evil. People we do not agree with/agree with their choices are not inherently evil. Romney is evil. He has multiple acts of hard evil on his record.
Ted Cruz is not evil. Donald Trump is not evil. There is a difference.
People make all kinds of excuses to justify their actions. To justify voting for evil. They project their moral failures on others to try erasing their own lapses of both morality and reason. We are all human. We all make mistakes. But when you fight to defend voting for evil, that’s not a mistake. That in an of itself is evil. When you fight to repeat it and continue, when you fight to convince others to accept evil, that’s evil.
I don’t care what the democrats run. If the GOP runs it’s own evil, I’m not obliged to help them. If we have a country filled with people that have no issue electing a Mitt Romney, then the country deserves to fail. If they had an issue, they wouldn’t vote for him or anyone like him. And they wouldn’t be trying to justify or quantify evil to some hypothetical degree of acceptability every election.
I agree. Elections are only part of it. But when you have people good with evil in elections, they are good with it in all aspects of their life. Remember, there is a difference between personal disagreements and demonstrated evil. And if people cannot distinguish the difference, it is little wonder America is in the mess it is.
” Romney is evil. He has multiple acts of hard evil on his record.
Ted Cruz is not evil. Donald Trump is not evil. There is a difference.”
One HELLUVA difference.
I have said it a few times. I am a Cruizer and will remain so. But I don’t look at Trump and see evil. I don’t agree with him on issues that are important to me. I agree with him on others. On balance, Ted wins going away. Serious people can disagree and thats fine. But It’s pretty bad when we have so called conservatives demanding lesser evil voting after we have lived the result of a decade ruled by it. And worse they can’t tell the difference between what evil is and what political difference is.
If you can’t see a difference between Trump & Hillary go ahead and take your guns to your local police department and give them up.
I figure it is going to be a Trump/Cruz ticket. Cruz is an amazing guy, but I lost trust in him on legal and illegal immigration. The country dies if it isn’t profoundly reversed. I am no longer a die hard optimist on the USA. I will fight for it any way I can, but too much damage has been done the past 12 years, and only a miracle will save it.The Republicans have done almost as much damage as the Democrats, and today it is the Uniparty. NOT optimistic.

Like candidate, like supporter: shallow, weak, and evasive.
