Caller ID is a blessing as well.

I never get anyone that talks to me just a computer. I just lay the receiver down and try to tie up their system as long as possible. No call lists are a farce anyway. Credit card services has been calling me almost 20 years now and no number of complaints will stop them. English is not their first language, I suspect they are form India

The Do Not Call list has done nothing for me either. I get calls everyday on my home and cell number. I usually let it ring but sometimes I answer and insult them. Just depends on my mood.

The calls come on a different number every time so if it is a local number I usually answer. Some times it is a legitimate call, sometimes not.

lol..I am going to use those!

If they call and ask for me by name I respond: This is Sgt. Friday of the police department. Did you know the murder victim?

“However it is another human being on the other side of the line trying to make an honest living. Just hang up and move on.”

****

I agree. The other guy/girl on the other line is just making a living and unfortunately, they are stuck with a sh*tty job. I never answer unless it’s a number I recognize and if not, just leave a message, that’s what they were invented for..

I used to have my fun with them. Several even threatened to kill me an my family. There are mostly scam or phishing callers rather than legit companies though. But still, I had fun with it. But, the volume of "lower your interest rates" type calls got so large, it just wasn't fun anymore.

I will recommend to anyone who uses common voice services from Comcast, ATT, Vonage, etc that you check out a service called "nomorobo". It is free, and it works really well. It's kind of like anti-virus for your phone line. They keep a list of phone numbers that get reported and block them from calling you, so it doesn't matter if they keep changing their caller-id or anything. Basically what it does is intercept the caller-id and if it's on the list of bad callers, it picks up the call for an instant then hangs up. I was getting 4-5 calls a day from the bastards until I set this up. As of right now, I haven't talked to a scammer or marketer in many months... not a single one since I signed up for it.

If I have the time, I prefer to string them along and waste their time.
As long as I possible can.

Most are not conversant in colloquial english.
Occasionally they shift me to a more conversant ‘closer’.
The ‘calling from windows crew’ are a personal favorite!

I am easily amused; that’s why I’m here!

Most of my calls go to my cell phone which is stupid. There was one week I forgot to set the messaging app and actually it was better because they cant leave a message NOR text as they are all landlines..

A friend of mine, he lives way out in the country, takes the phone out on the back porch and fires a pistol next to the receiver.

The “do not call” list has done wonders to reduce these calls; there are exceptions, but it had really gotten out of hand years ago (which is probably why the “do not call” law was passed).

It did work for years, however, recently, for over a year it has not worked and the unsolicited sales (spam) calls are getting more numerous. As bad now as it was before the do not call program. I'm now, although not as frequent, even starting to get calls on my cell phone.

I generally abuse their sexuality and relations with their parents in the hope that one of them will go postal and take out the call center staff.

I haven’t been successful at that yet, but I have angered a couple enough so that they call me back on a non-spoofed number, which I then forward to the Attorney General’s office.

The charities need to be restricted. An elderly person who I know got calls every day. They took advantage of her state of mind to get money from her. The requests for money arrived every day. I have a list of the charities and will rip them to shreds if they ever call me.

I don’t get tons of political calls. I’m in Arizona, and the votes in Arizona don’t matter to anyone.

I get calls about timeshares, credit cards, and of course, Microsoft support offering to fix my computer. I’ve started answering the latter so I can ask, “Does Microsoft support Apple computers now? Cool!”

Of course, I don’t own any Apple computers, but the guy on the phone doesn’t know that. He just hangs up.

My wife has a simpler approach if she answers the phone. She replies, “I’m glad you called. Let’s talk about Jesus! If you died tonight, do you KNOW you would go to heaven?” I don’t think she has ever been able to complete the last sentence before they hang up.

When I get an unsolicited call from telemarketers, I say something like “Before I answer your question, can you help me? Do you know the proper way to cook a turkey?” Or something equally lame. I like messing with them.
