I really like Ted Cruz....but it is true...he won't be able to get anything done.
Sometimes, common sense must prevail. There is no conservative running, and that includes Cruz.
Consider that the do-nothing Congress is actually doing the following imo. Corrupt Congress is letting last-term Obama get away with stealing legislative branch powers so that Obama can do all the unconstitutional legislative work with executive orders that Congress wants to do.
In other words, by letting Obama do Congresss unconstitutional and unpopular legislative work for it, corrupt lawmakers are keeping their voting records clean in order to fool low-information voters into reelecting them.
And what is worse is that Congress is also letting Obama get away with exercising legislative powers that the states have never delegated to Congress, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to exercise.
Remember in November !
So if patriots elect Trump, or whatever conservative they elect, they will also need to elect a new, state sovereignty-respecting Congress that will work strictly within its Section 8-limited powers to support the president.
Note that such a Congress will also probably be willing to fire state sovereignty-ignoring activist justices.
Half a loaf is better than none.
Nominate Cruz you get Hillary. Nominate Trump you get Trump, who will make deals with democrats if he has no coattails (unlikely) BUT when he makes his deals with democrats he will get much, if not most, of what he wants in return, because that is his nature. He is the master deal maker. He wrote the book!
Besides which, if you know anything at all, which sometimes I doubt, everything that happens in Washington is the result of a deal and of compromise; no congress critter can pass any legislation whatsoever on his own, and must make deals/compromises with other critters who also have their differing agendas — anyway that is the way it used to be, now the Republicans do not even try to make a deal, they just give the democrats whatever they want.
Choosing the guy who will make deals to achieve the goals he promised the people is a far better choice choosing the guy that will be defeated by than Hillary who will then have the coattails also!
In short, deal making is good! Deal making gets things done! Better a whole lot of something than a whole lot of nothing, and worse, get it?
(Of course you do not . . . sigh)
Cruz, Rubio, Jeb love dem illegal aliens. We will have another 911 much worse than 15 years ago because no one gives a shit about our immigration laws. There are terrorists entering this country every day and no one cares. They say iimmigration is broken. That's an excuse for shirking their responsibilities to make sure current immigration laws are enforced.
How could this have happened, given he only had dem control for his first two years?
he accomplished this mostly via Executive Order, which was roundly excoriated on this forum...are you suggesting Cruz should do the same objectionable tactic...

How do you know that? Do you read minds? Do you know things about Trump that the rest of us do not, instances where he just gives and quits if things are tough difficult, or just declares problems solved when clearly they are not, and they must magically go away?
if so please share. From where I sit, just giving up when things are not easy, or indulging in magical thinking that a problem does is solved when clearly it is not the formula to make billions of dollars, it is the formula for loosing every penny you have, ending up with nothing.
And therein lies the problem. Maybe you think you know what he wants in return. I don't know what he wants in return. What if the art of the deal is starting at 2016 Trump and compromising back to 2009 Trump?
I won’t settle for half a loaf when I can have the whole thing. That’s Cruz.
Trump’s negatives are too high. Poll after poll shows that he can’t beat Hillary, but Cruz can.
So you take your little hero-worshiping fantasies about that progressive self-confessed establishment hack to bed with you tonight, Sparky, and maybe they’ll keep you warm.
I’m not interested in simple-minded, childish cults of personality.
Doing nothing else isn't necessarily the worst that happen. If getting stuff done results in the Paul Ryan budget, then that's not a bad thing!
And, why, pray tell, would he NOT be able to “tell the Senators” what to do, exactly like the democrats have done the past 12 years?
Are you going to pretend that the repubbies in the Senate all in a sudden will begin to “fight back” against a president and the House?
True
But Lord Almighty Trump(as he is presented by his acolytes) will shift the very Earth!
Teddy Roosevelt came out with something just like that after he was elected; never lived it down.
I wonder when FreeRepublic became a place for random people to show up and unburden themselves of their fears without so much as an explanation.
big, fat TEA Party coattails.
I really liked Ronald Reagan, but I knew he could’t get anything done.....Oh wait!
Given an elected POTUS Cruz, Congress would have to pass a budget he would sign. Four years is too long for Congress to face the results of throwing a hissy fit in the first year. The reality is that Obama has set a tragic precedent in the way he has waived the enforcement of ObamaCAre and the border, without so much as a by-your-leave to Congress. Cruz would be reluctant to follow that example, but he can make sure that Congress knows he can. If they threaten impeachment, Cruz can say, “Make my day,” and face them down. There will not be a conviction because at least 2/3 of the Republicans will not want to run for reelection on that record.
Basically, we need a new reformation to push the RESET on the power of the executive. That will probably require serious consideration - and an Article V convention.
