While traveling in the Dallas / Ft Worth area of Texas yesterday afternoon, we experienced a complete LOS on GPS. We had traveled to Irving to get a new bulb for our projection TV, and right afterward had the LOS that lasted well after 9 PM yesterday evening. We eventually were able to find 635 W and then find 80 and I20 E, which placed us back home around 12:30 AM.
Needless to say, I was glad I never leave home without my oxygen concentrator--even on good days, but I still ended up getting sick in a gas station restroom and basically ready to tell my spouse to take me to a hospital (I prefer Baylor)--but gee willikers, ANY hospital nearby would be good.
It really, really scared me, my spouse was throwing fits about being lost (not helping my situation at all), but whenever you're lost, get directions from someone. As for me, I'm saying home next time so I will not get into physical and emotional distress; too hard on me, and I don't want to be in a bloody wreck, mates!
Thomas Guide rocks.
(Do they still print them)
You weren’t lost. You were in North central Texas.
We use the Maps app on our phone.
Best Map book around!
Did you know that Thomas guide puts an error on every page they print (sat next to a guy on a plane once who worked for them). They do this to prove copyright infringement.
One example: That river that flows through downtown LA, the San Antonio river...
“Yeah, I did.”

I love info like this. :-)

Tuck a DeLorme Gazetteer in the seat-back pocket and you’ll never be lost.
So in other words every map they make is knowingly incorrect?
Next time order one off amazon or print out your route from MapQuest.
I have GPS in my car, but have hardly ever used it. Don’t want to get reliant on it.
Glad you did get home safe and sound, even if distraught.
I believe all the map makers do that. I found some such errors on other brands.
It could save your life one day. GPS ain't forever.
Everyone laughs at me because I always carry detailed, orienteer maps and a compass with me.
I suspect you might have been at Fry’s. We live at 635 just south of there less than 1/2 mile.
What brand of receiver? There is only one satellite currently down in the constellation.
The biggest problem with Ft. Worth is that you don't get any advanced notice that your exit is coming up.
Publishers of atlases and gazettes have been doing this for a long time. They insert one fictitious town in the middle of nowhere. The image of people arriving at a town that doesn’t exist is kind of funny, but they have to do it. A lot of work goes into those publications.

GPS isn’t entirely science; it’s part magic. There’s a particularly evil witch, named Zelda, in the hills of East Tennessee who works for the GPS manufacturers. She kidnaps innocent young women, strips them of their souls, trains the souls of the lost women to give GPS instructions, and imprisons one in each GPS unit. The units periodically fail because the slaves occasionally rebel. That’s what happened to you.
