It’s Because He’s Black, Isn’t It?
Taki's Magazine ^ | February 1, 2016 | Jim Goad

Superstar NFL quarterback Cam Newton is black, and even though many people loudly insist that shouldn’t matter, it is precisely those people who are always making a preposterously huge deal of it.

Chief among these offenders is Mr. Newton himself, who last Wednesday told reporters at a press conference that the reason he sometimes faces criticism is not because he’s a high-profile sports star and all of them sometimes face criticism—no, it is clearly his status as a Negroidal American that inspires the negative comments:

I’m an African-American quarterback that may scare a lot of people because they haven’t seen nothing that they can compare me to.

In truth, I’ve seen thousands of people I can compare him to—namely, African Americans who deflect any possible criticism by blaming it on racism. I’ve seen this for two generations and counting.

The following day, ESPN Radio host Bomani Jones—a black man who approaches black issues from a black perspective in the blackest way he knows—said that Cam Newton makes many white Americans uncomfortable because he is not a shuffling and compliant goody-two-shoes black man but rather an unapologetically “blackety-black” man. Jones opined that there has been a “historical lineage that indicates a lot has been done to keep black people from playing quarterback” and that the “simple reality” is that our wicked nation “does not like black people very much.”

USA Today published an article on Newton’s blackety-blackness that featured a quote by Doug Williams, the former Washington Redskins quarterback who in 1988 became the first black quarterback to win a Super Bowl. Williams constructs a self-contained logical Guilt Loop wherein anyone who dares to criticize Newton is in denial of their racist motivations:

I think he is retarded. Literally.

Nothing to do with skin color. Everything to do with stunted emotional development.

Or during the game either.

The world is Cam Newtons oyster. He is THE most talented QB out there.
What is holding him back is mental maturity. Taking that next step into becoming a real leader and QB. It has nothing to do with skin color.

Wasn't particularly spectacular during the game, either.

Compare and contrast with Von Miller, who had just won the MVP. What was on his mind? The troubles of his A&M teammate, Johnny Manziel.

Anyone else notice him dropping to the ground before Denvers late 4th qtr touchdown? With 3 1/2 minutes left, Russel Wilson would have been planning the next touchdown before an onside kick. Cam was rolling like a little kid.

It will be interesting to see how he deals with the loss next year.

He did not represent so well after the game.

No he didn't, which is kind of understandable because he's almost solely responsible for the loss. Both Denver touchdowns came off of Cam Newton fumbles. Newton's a Super Bowl quality quarterback; his 50 touchdowns during the year prove that. But he turned in the worst game of the season last night, maybe the worst of his career. And he was no doubt feeling humiliated and angry with himself and knew he'd let his team down. So no, his actions weren't excusable at the press conference. But I can't think of any other quarterbacks out there who would likely have acted much different had they been in Newton's place.

It generally doesn’t turn out well when a team goes with a black quarterback. Unless they are Grambling. Then you keep the White Tiger on the bench.

I still can’t believe they chose to punt with 2 minutes left, even though they were deep in their territory. IT’S THE FRICKIN’ SUPER BOWL, what did they have to lose at that point?

Cam me no Cam Newtons. I shocked a couple of liberals over the weekend by reminding them that they're forgetting someone out of this nasty little racial brouhaha who really ought to be remembered. Let's see, 3-time Pro Bowler, Pro Bowl Offensive MVP, 2-time NFC Champion, Superbowl Champion, one score away from sitting Cam and the boys down for the season only two weeks ago? Whoever could it be? Oh, yeah, Russell Wilson. And he shows up for his post-game interviews like a man.

Sick of the race baiting, God, I am so sick of it.

Doug Williams of the Redskins. But then he won.

Why do has it been forgotten that he was removed from the Florida team for stealing a computer. He’s that kind of class, he thinks he deserves everything, even things he has not earned it.

"I’m an African-American quarterback that may scare a lot of people because they haven’t seen nothing that they can compare me to."

What... a losing quarterback... nope, we've seen plenty of them in our day. Color's got nothing to do with winning a football game, as he so eloquently proved on Sunday.
