This really getting old. (Vanity)

Posted on 02/09/2016 9:15:26 AM PST by andy1954

Most on here know by now I am supporting Marco Rubio for the Republican nominee.

In the process I am finding some rather remarkable talking points that are completely useless.

1. Voting for anyone other than Trump or Cruz will cause a permanent democratic majority. This is nonsense and anyone that has participated in this process knows it. 2. Some how Cruz can over come his 'likability' issue in the U.S. Senate and even in his home state (I am a Texan) 3. That Donald Trump really is a conservative. Nonsense. He is totally unpredictable. And really could implode in a General Election Has unfavorably ratings higher than Clinton. 4. Not voting is a valid position to take if Trump or Cruz are not the nominee. That somehow it will show them a lesson or will in the long run help the conservative movement. Hello President Obama. 5. That millions of evangelical Christians and far right conservatives will raise up to support Ted Cruz. I hope I a wrong about this, but it is nonsense in my opinion. Many evangelicals don't vote because of their world view, they just don't think it matters and the earth's days are number anyway. Far right conservatives that 'really' don't vote are not that many. I know there are plenty on this site, but that really is not that many. 6. The immigration issue will hurt us in the General Election. Only if we take such a hard line as Trump that we lose the entire Hispanic vote.

Hey, my FRiend, you have some really good points, some of which I agree with, and you are brave. :)

I was agnostic about Rubio but he’s pretty phony and he’s pretty go along to get along. He would be this year’s Romney. Yes, if he is the nominee, I would probably vote for him, especially if Hill was the other one. But with him in the WH we are still run by a globalist two party cabal who doesn’t give a poop about the constitution but wants to rule us like kings.

I want the free country back and I would die for it so my kids can live in the real USA. I consider only a super independent, patriotic outsider who gets the trouble we are in to be a worthy risk, and right now that is Trump. If thst doesn’t work or if he isn’t whom he appears to be, we need a civil war, which I don’t want.

But I see where you are coming from.

Out of the lot of ‘em, I’d support a Trump/Rubio ticket.

I worked in the campaign for Ted in Texas. Since then his likability in Texas has gone way down. Yes we wanted him to lead the fight on amnesty and wasting our money. But what we did not expect is the way he choose to do it. He needs friends to help him accomplish his goals. He has few, and believe it or not, in the coffee shops in Texas, Mr. Cruz has lost support not gained it. The old codgers group (which I am a part of of). Often just say, what the hell is he doing. He often does more to hurt our causes than help. right message, wrong messenger.

And no matter what anyone says, winning this election is important.

Sort of. But it is winning a battle and losing the war.

Which I tried to do by voting Romney in 2012. I just wanted to put down Obama. However, once you see who rules us like serfs, who rules this country, you won’t be able to unsee it. Hillary and Rubio are on the same team. I know, she is pure selfish evil and he’s just a bit insecure and light in his loafers. But they are both playing for the oligarchy team wearing different jerseys.

My top priority is to get back to a constitutional republic, a free country.

I am tired of dead people voting for live crooks and cooks. This year I am going to vote for the last true conservative POTUS.

Oh, you are right about Cruz. No one other than evangelicals and a few other kinds of self-declared conservatives will vote for him. No moderates, no low info voters, NO LIBERALS, no one else. Even a lot of conservatives have been turned off him recently by his own actions displaying gross lack or character and social tone deafness.

You have to remember we (Tea Party/FR) exist to keep driving to the right. Especially sense we keep pushing to the right and keep getting laws that go farther and farther left. I see it as a parallel to the Anti-Federalist movement during the founding of the country.

How do you figure out what most people know?

I really need that info as soon as you can share it.

Thanks

Well I guess that was a bit presumptuous to say the least. Most of the people I have been talking to in the last couple of months know. Yes, I am a n00b on this site. Years ago I used to talk and post quite a bit. But I grew tired of it for a season. Years ago, new computer and will I just started over. Been messing around in the political scene for many years. I am an old white, bald male, 61 years old. I have heard and seen it all. I am not Trumpbot. He is just not a conservative and I think he could go off at anytime to a place I do not want to go. He is truly scary.

I agree with you on California. What we seem to miss is that Hispanics are growing number even legally in the U.S. Their families are twice the size as an average Caucasian family. Hispanics are natural republicans when it comes family values and free trade. If we where not so insane about legal immigration then we would do well. I am solid against amnesty but I know some way forward has to be articulated. Trump does not have a clue. Cruz is a machine that tell constituents what they want to hear. I am from Texas and have known him a long time. He is not nearly as electable as people think in a national election, even though I supported him and voted for him here in Texas. I don’t think he can win.

On the language issue: I've read that by 2020, only 2/3 of Latino families will speak Spanish. Translation, it will take a while, but they will assimilate eventually, just like other groups. I've had my doubts about this before, though. There are always some negatives, but they do have certain conservative inclinations. Reality is reality and ways to bring them the rest of the way into the Conservative fold need to be undertaken.

I think that even though he is not of the generation of Kasich and Bush, he is attempting to do his speeches like that old 1980s way of perfect little speeches making the candidate look like an encyclopedia.

I don’t believe we are even interested in canned sound bites any more. I think Obama and his ever present teleprompters really killed any attraction we Americans have for perfect speeches. What we like in 2016 is “keeping it real.” We want to see a Trump, Christie kind of speech, where the guy just talks. From his heart, from his brain. He speaks with passion, he might mess up, but he stays on track and doesn’t appear at all phony.

I believe it is tone deaf of the times now when you get these “son of a mailman” speeches or the chock-full-o-data memorized sound bites. We want candidates to show they can speak off the cuff, passionately, strongly, and make quick changes in their speech to adapt to immediate circumstances. We want it real.

Which polls are those? You got some secret polls that none of the major poll tracking websites know about?

Any suggestion that we should repeat this fiasco tenfold is an absolute deal breaker for me. I will NEVER support a candidate who supports it.

Ditto. Rubio is unacceptable to me because he is pro-amnesty. If we had a congress who would stand up to him, I could probably tolerate his waywardness on this issue. However, with spineless RINOs like McConnell and Ryan running things, the gang of 8 immigration plans will have clear sailing. Too bad. He is likeable and young, but amnesty is a major deal-breaker for me.

First order of business should be recognition that everyone has a right to their opinion and preference, even if you or I or Joe Blow can’t comprehend it. Second would be throwing epithets like “idiot”, “moron”, ****head, etc. ought to get a poster banned. Jim Rob has rules about personal attacks and they ought to be enforced. Third, making jokes about a candidate we don’t favor is fun and if someone who likes that candidate is offended they should take a breath and try to laugh it off with the rest of us. Nobody’s perfect and Trump’s street alley syntax, Cruz’s inappropriately timed smirks, Rubio’s imitation of a robot suffering a software loop, and every and anything about Jeb Bush are fair game. It’s too much to expect everybody to act like they’re Oxford dons sipping tea but keeping the discussions and disagreements civil and fact based ought to be a goal.
