I read that Dinah was far more urbane, sophisticated and educated than Burt and he became her ‘pupil’ more or less- taught him how to get along with the ‘upper crust’, etc.

Both declared that there was love there also, though.
They never married because of the age difference. (Dinah’s decision)
True, he may have been looking for a mother figure in the beginning.
I was never a Dinah fan, but she was a big deal in her day.

Yes, I can see that. Think ‘My Fair Lady’ the sexes flipped.
Remember Dinah from the original ‘Dinah Shore Show’ aired in the Fifties? She was also once featured on the Ralph Edwards “This is Your Life” about the time her original show was a hit. As a child, the family watched both programs religiously every week. Rabbit ears and all -B/W of course :-))

Burt had his own way of thinking. Who would build a ranch in Florida with a family mausoleum and then abandon the ranch? Or Cut an LP and after the fact begin taking singing lessons.

The Dinah Shore Show and ‘rabbit ears’ were way before my time. :)
I’m a classic movie fan- big time, and I read about all the old stars and movies and TV shows.

Yes, Burt really had an unusual way of doing things.
I never knew he built a ranch with a mausoleum and abandoned it or that he ever made an album. (but then I haven’t read all that much about Burt, not being a big fan.)

However; ask me anything about Liz Taylor (bet I can name all her husbands), Cary Grant, Clark Gable or Marilyn Monroe. Real trivia buff. LOL

Can’t explain the fascination..guess I’m really an old soul at heart. Don’t care for most modern movies (too much sex and violence) or modern music. (love 60’s, 70’s rock)

Jackie Gleason had the best lines in that movie.

He deserved an Oscar just for the way he wolfed down that hamburger at the "choke and puke."

Smokey and the Bandit is a seriously underrated comedy, as is Semi-Tough.

Hard to believe he's 80. Then again, Frankie Valli is 81 or 82, and he still puts on a great show.

LOL The following for you pleasure :-))
You tube from two crazy guys tour Reynolds ranch

Reynolds Sings”Ask Me What I Am”

There is no one today who would compare to the STARS of old. Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart, John Wayne. Bette Davis, Kathryn Hepburn, just to name a few. When they died the mold stayed empty. Remember seeing GWTW for the first time ever - at that time Clark was in a hospital bed awaiting the birth of his son and attempting to overcome a heart attack. Changes -always changes.

what do you mean Reynolds ‘abandoned’ the ranch? Just left it to decay? Couldn’t he sell it?
The surrounding landscape was beautiful..the lake and all.

As for his singing; it wasn’t too bad.

No, our classic stars we’ll never see the like of again..and they’re almost gone. Today’s ‘stars’ can’t begin to compare..

I literally fell in love with James Steward. Now THERE was a man. He didn’t just play a war hero like Wayne and such, he WAS a war hero.
I still can’t believe Liz (of the violet eyes) the most beautiful woman in the world, is gone from us.

And Marilyn. Never will there be an equal.
She was mesmerizing. She had that certain something. You could watch nothing but her when she was on screen.
They’ve tried many times to create another, but they never will.

Bette Davis..probably my favorite. Now THAT was an actress.

Clark’s family blamed Marilyn for his fatal heart attack (right after they finished ‘the Misfits’) because she caused so much stress by being always late on set and all.
Truth probably is that he insisted on doing his own stunts at his age and that did it.
Wonder what ever happened to John Clark? (Gables’s son)

Gable was quite a rounder in his day (false teeth and all), managed to knock up Loretta Young during ‘Call of the Wild’ (Kept secret for many, many years)Loretta was supposed to have gone away and ‘adopted’ her. lol

Studios paid big money to hush up such scandals in those days. Now nobody cares. They all let it all hang out LOL

Finally saw the Misfits not that long ago 2-3 months. Didn’t enjoy it. Perhaps the memory of the back stage antics of the stars. Don’t know, but I’d not venture forth to see it again.
The ranch was in total decay. Do remember not long ago he was in NY and media reported something about owing the city/state mucho dinero in back taxes. As to the abandoned....in the same series of You Tube videos these same two filmed Vincent Minnelli, Liza’s dad’s abandoned home in Hollywood This old dilapidated mansion of by-gone days. Creepy!! Do remember reading about Gable’s son and even seeing a photo of him. He resembles the big guy a great deal. His name will pop up on occasion, but his mom was very low key in raising him and avoided the spotlight as much as possible. GWTW was such a sad story/plot. But the real story in real life was just as sad. When Clark’s wife would visit the hospital room it was said he constantly asked her to turn side ways so he might see his son. He so anticipated that child. And then he died before ever seeing him. Sad, sad, story.

I’ve seen ‘The Misfits’ several times. I enjoyed it, I guess because of the big name stars (Marilyn, Clark, Montgomery Cliff, etc- all sad, troubled in real life), but it made me sad because of the horses being rounded up for dog food, and it was sad seeing Marilyn. I loved her, but she was so troubled and met such a terrible end.
I still believe JFK, RK killed her. She was having an affair with both and threatened to expose it.
Google MM murder-JFK to get details.

One can feel sorry for Gable never living to see his son, but he DID have a daughter, Judy Lewis, born out of wedlock to Loretta Young.(one of the great beauties of the Classic era- and underrated)
After a few initial visits when she was a baby and once as a toddler, he ignored her for the rest of his life. She only found out who her father was when, as an adult, a family friend let it spill.
But back in those days such a scandal as an out of wedlock baby could ruin careers. So...who knows.

I’ve seen GWTW at least a dozen times. Great movie.
Vivian Leigh was one of the greatest beauties of the Classic era.

It was just the way it was back then.
I’m wondering how long it will take the Libs and Black Lives Matter idiots to try to have it banned- as they are doing to the Confederate flag and statues of prominent Southern figures like generals, etc.
Idiots. Bad as some of it was, it is American history.

I looked up photos of John Clark, didn’t see much of a resemblance to Clark, Sr.
John Clark (a minor actor) now has a son named..wait for it-
Clark Gable 111.
All of Clark’s descendants are handsome men, but none really favor Clark.
Clark wasn’t really that handsome, he just had that special, unidentifiable something that makes a star- someone you love to watch, like Marilyn.

Looked up Liza’s dad’s old abandoned mansion. Fascinating!
