Cryogenics: Entire Rabbit Brain Successfully Frozen and Revived For First Time

"Using a combination of ultrafast chemical fixation and cryogenic storage, it is the first demonstration that near perfect, long-term structural preservation of an intact mammalian brain is achievable," the Brain Preservation Foundation wrote in a news release.

The team, led by recent Massachusetts Institute of Technology graduate Robert McIntyre, filled the vascular system of the rabbit brain with chemicals that prevent decay and allow it to be cooled to -211 degrees Fahrenheit. When thawed, the brain was found to have all of its synapses, cell membranes, and intracellular structures intact.

"Every neuron and synapse looks beautifully preserved across the entire brain," Kenneth Hayworth, the Brain Preservation Foundation president, said in the release. "Simply amazing given that I held in my hand this very same brain when it was vitrified glassy solid ... This is not your father's cryonics."

“We got a couple men here doing 20 spots. We got one that’s got all of it. We got all kinds, and you gonna fit in real good. Of course, unless you get rabbit in your blood and you decide to take off for home. You give the bonus system time and a set of leg chains to keep you slowed down just a little bit, for your own good, you’ll learn the rules. Now, it’s all up to you. Now I can be a good guy, or I can be one real mean son-of-a-bitch. It’s all up to you.”

Frankenstein was written by a British chick, but she happened to be in the company of one very Italian Dr. Polidori at the time :)

There is an urban legend that train companies borrowed the chicken gun for testing windshields for high-speed trains, and were shocked and confused at the amount of damage the gun did - the projectiles were not only breaking through the windshields but embedding themselves into seats farther down the train. When they asked the lenders what they were doing wrong, the reply came, “Gentlemen, thaw your chickens.”

I was thinking about Uncle Walt also.

I remember hearing about that when I was a kid. Probably about '70-'72.

40-45 years later, science fiction is getting closer to reality.

I would imagine that the issue is going to be getting it the “chemicals” out of the blood stream, getting blood pumped back in, and getting it up to the proper temp all without turning it into a carrot that even the other rabbits would not want.

Which lucky politician gets the transplant?

Forget the Dems.

Transplant; to perform a medical operation in which an organ or other part that has been removed from the body of one person is put it into the body of another person

Dems don't have brains to begin with.

And the horrific Ted Williams account.

“I saw his (Williams’) head,” Johnson asserted that, “What happens is they had had his head in one — looked like a freezer chest ... and it was malfunctioning, there were some issues. So they wanted to move his head into another vessel to lower the temperature of his head down it minus 321 Fahrenheit, so they went to put his head in that vessel. Obviously, the head’s round, it’s not gonna sit upright.

“So, they got a tuna fish can, and they put it in the bottom of that vessel. They set the head on top of the can and then filled the vessel with liquid nitrogen. Well, obviously, after two or three days of being in that state, when they pull you out, that can is stuck to the top of the head and in Williams’ case, that’s exactly what happened.

They pulled him out, the tuna can was stuck on the top of his head, a technician grabbed a monkey wrench, took a swing at the can, missed it, missed the can, hit the head, drew back again, (took) a second swing, hit the can, sent it flying across the room.”

I have no idea if anything ever came of this, or if it was legit or what.
