What some voters thought of Ronald Reagan in 1980 (Vintage Carter Attack Ad)
YouTube ^

Posted on 02/14/2016 5:53:24 PM PST by SamAdams76

Found this interesting vintage 1980 campaign ad by the "Committee to Re-Elect Jimmy Carter and Walter Mondale".

It is titled "Jimmy Carter vs. Ronald Reagan - Liberals Wrong AGAIN!"

It's only a minute long but shows "man-on-the-street" interviews of citizens that were concerned about somebody like Ronald Reagan leading our country. How he was dangerous and not experienced for the job, etc. I found it fascinating because much of what was being said about Reagan at the time is being said about Donald Trump today.

Reagan could coherently espouse conservative positions...trump can’t put together a coherent thought.comparing the two is laughable

Agreed. We should ask Vlad Putin if Donald reminds him of Reagan, since he’s already voiced his great appreciation and respect for Trump (and Trump voiced his appreciation for Vlad’s compliments).

Well when I mentioned that Reagan starred in B movies with a chimp and was upstaged by it, I was echoing what others were saying at the time. Nobody is making the case that Reagan is disabled for having a chimp star in a movie with him. Ridiculous! Personally I think Lassie stole the show in whatever show she starred in but that is not meant to denigrate or make fun of those humans that co-starred.

Nice clip! I really have to check out the Fargo show. I’m a big fan of the movie from 1990 or whenever it was.

They were trying to portray Reagan as too conservative.

Donald Trump is NO Ronald Reagan. Reagan had demonstrated his conservative bona fides for twenty five years as a conservative stump speaker, co-chair of the Goldwater Campaign, and as a conservative governor of California.

The question is not whether or not Trump is TOO conservative, but whether he is conservative at all. Even Rush, who gave him the benefit of the doubt, now concedes that Trump is NOT a conservative.

Ronald Reagan could also get quite angry at times (even in debates).

Reagan had a record as a Governor of one of the largest states in the union

Trump has a very uneven record as a businessman

the similarities actually stop there (before they ever got started)

Reagan had been a liberal democrat in his earlier years and voted for FDR four times and admired FDR.

Lol

Very uneven record?

He’s increased his dad’s estate between 40-300 fold in his working lifetime

If that’s uneven in your world I don’t want to go there

http://www.moneytalksnews.com/why-youre-probably-better-investing-than-donald-trump/

here is another bit of the story:

Trump eventually found himself in serious financial trouble. In 1990, due to excessive leveraging, The Trump Organization revealed that it was $5 billion in debt ($8.8 billion by some estimates), with $1 billion personally guaranteed by Trump himself. The survival of the company was made possible only by a bailout pact agreed upon in August of that same year by some 70 banks, allowing Trump to defer on nearly $1 billion in debt, as well as to take out second and third mortgages on almost all of his properties. If it were not for the collective effort of all banks and parties involved in that 1990 deal, Trump’s business would have gone bankrupt and failed.

Check out Trump and ANC....that will warm your heart

Yes a failure woofie.....or uneven as you say

50/80 million in 1973

3.5 to 11 billion today

A meteoric rise by an objective appraisal but to you “uneven”

He makes nearly 100 million a year just licensing his name.....

Stick with purloining his views....its safer

why do Trump haters always get personal first chance?

Because they’ve lost and it felt so close

Anyone who thinks Trumps business success is questionable is not being honest

Enjoy staying home this November

At least you’ll be content knowing you’re better than us
