Chicago, Trump’s Incitements, and Cruz’s Response
National review ^ | 3/13/16 | Andrew McCarthy

Posted on 03/13/2016 5:35:26 AM PDT by RaceBannon

It is ludicrous to argue that, because the hard Left is primarily responsible for the outbreak of chaos and violence that caused Donald Trump’s Chicago rally to be canceled last night, it is wrong to condemn the thuggery Trump often encourages at his appearances. Trump has encouraged physical battery at his campaign events, even telling supporters he’d pay their legal fees if they get arrested for assaulting dissenters. (See, e.g., Iowa event: ”So if you see somebody getting ready to throw a tomato, knock the crap out of ‘em, would you? Seriously. Okay? Just knock the hell — I promise you, I will pay for the legal fees. I promise. I promise”; see also Las Vegas event: regarding an unruly protester removed by security, Trump tells crowd, “I’d like to punch him in the face. He’s smiling, having a good time.”) Trump has continued to fan these flames even after it has become obvious that some of his supporters are acting on the invitation to resort to violence. Incitement to violence is a crime; incitement to violence at a large rally is incitement to riot — a crime that can get people badly injured or even killed.

ASK FACTCHECK
Obama, Guns and ‘The Untouchables’

By Eugene Kiely Posted on January 14, 2011

Q. Did President Obama once say of Republicans: “If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun.”

A: Yes. Obama made those remarks at a fundraiser in Philadelphia during the 2008 presidential campaign. He was paraphrasing a quote from the 1987 mob movie “The Untouchables.”

In all fairness, those criticizing Trump sound a lot like the old Democrat whines that the public doesn’t need guns, and criminals don’t need to be put in prison, because they are “victims” of our “sick society”.

But, as it turned out, it was the Democrats who were the cause of our “sick society”. And the cure was to return the God-given right of self defense against the evil, and to put evil doers behind bars.

To complete the analogy: while there is a right to protest, there is *not* a right to disrupt a peaceful political rally. And those who trespass at such rallies hoping to disrupt them with their agitation, even if arrested, which is rare, are just given slaps on the wrist by weakling judges, so recidivism is the norm.

So why not give the crowd free reign to police themselves? There is legal perversity in permitting violent agitation at public events, but condemning those who effort to stop it by hitting them with criminal charges.

If enough of the public fight back against such agitators, eventually it will get through their thick heads that they are not invited or wanted, that an audience has turned out so they can make an informed political decision by listening to a speech, and that the audience has the right to have their rights protected against agitators.

Giving free reign to agitators has denied countless audiences the opportunity to hear other views. In colleges, students identified as having done so should be expelled. In public, such agitators should expect to be punched in the nose, Tasered, and dragged out.

That Fraud Jebbie Cruz regurgitated the same Uniparty talking points that Neil Bush had said in CNN and then Rubio and Kaisch Uniparty hacks said the same thing.

If Cruz had come out swinging for the first amendment he would be a hero right now. Instead he managed a short, perfunctory dig at the rioters, then turned his firepower on his real culprit—Trump, for exercising his right to free speech.

Didnt Trump chastise Geller for the Texas Muslim assault?

http://www.breitbart.com/national-security/2015/05/04/trump-blames-geller-for-being-attacked-by-jihadis-what-is-she-doing-drawing-muhammad/

So i see its OK for Trump to blame the victim. Ok, makes sense now that I understand Trumpon logic.

Every time anything bad happened related to the Cruz campaign, the trump mob was quick to blame the top of the ticket... when trump gets his own medicine, the defense is to cry rape?

Trump asked for that to happen, it did, he can’t insult his way back to the moral high grounf.

Did Gallery tell a cheering crowd of thousands to shoot protesters? Trump said to hit them, it happened. Any news if Trump is paying the legal bills like he promised?

In my world the object is to win the general election and put a conservative in the White House. Putting aside the argument that Trump in no way qualifies as a conservative, whatever he is or is not, he has unnecessarily compromised our chances in November with his big mouth.

His condoning and inciting of violence occurred long before this demonstration. He set this up and left us all vulnerable in the general election and he set this up for cheap, short term pandering to the mob.

It is Trump who is wrong here, and it was perfectly proper for Ted Cruz to expose Trump in doing it.

Cruz is in good company with Andrew McCarthy and I feel very comfortable following their lead.

From the article:

Trump has encouraged physical battery at his campaign events, even telling supporters he’d pay their legal fees if they get arrested for assaulting dissenters. (See, e.g., Iowa event: ”So if you see somebody getting ready to throw a tomato, knock the crap out of ‘em, would you? Seriously.

Somebody THROWING anything at a person is not "dissent". It is not "free speech". It is assault.

If I see anybody preparing to THROW an object at me or mine, I am very likely to respond physically. I will not tolerate it as "speech". I doubt you would either.

In these days, you also cannot immediately be sure a red object is "just" a tomato, and not something made to look like a tomato but filled with something noxious or lethal.

That sure seems to be the case. He can never take , nor can his “ followers” any criticism of any sort.
He is more like Obama than I care to even think.
He has done a great job of bringing dis-unity!

I seem to remember Trump placing the blame of the Irving Texas jihadis at the feet of Pamella Gellar. Will you now admit he was siding with the jihadis?

The protests in Chicago was totally unprovoked. People seem to forget that Trump was not even there. It had no relation to whatever he said in the past. These leftists attacked because it was a republican event. They would have done it to any republican.

NR knows this but still try to argue Trump was responsible when he was not even there.

How absurd, this has been going on for MONTHS. . Trump has been baiting protesters in his crowds for months. He found a group who wanted to be baited into violence.

He has been playing with fire and now it is getting out of control.

Are you being obtuse or are you a low information voter? :D
