One of my daughters was arrested for library fines in Copperas Cove, Texas. She spent five days in jail to cover the fines.

If/when they bring back the DRAFT, she already has a reserved spot on The Group "W" Bench.

There is a classic SciFi short story, "Computers Don't Argue" by Gordon R. Dickson, where a series of computer-aided errors leads to deadly consequences. It starts with a book club computer sending "Kidnapped" in error and leads to the customer being convicted for the killing of Robert Louis Stevenson.

As in many of Kafka's nightmares, you have an uncaring bureaucracy following the minutia but, with the 'able assistance' of the computers, being blind to the real issue.

In my library system, IIRC, they only fine you up to the cost/value of the book, which you still have to pay. I don’t know what it takes to get the cops involved around here.

It was no real secret back in the VHS movie rental days that most of their money came from late fees.

Well before NetFlix, I wanted to create an Online movie rental business.

We would ship them out and collect the late fees.

I missed the boat by focusing to much on the wrong revenue stream.

Oh get over yourself. The poster I responded to referenced Seinfeld. The quote itself mentioned Seinfeld. It was a pretty easy task to figure it out.
