Very uncomfortable. To move the bottles one was in danger of cuts on the fingers from the sharp edges of the bottle caps. However, as children when it came to soda - a cut was such a small thing.
Perhaps twist top bottles are a good thing. No sharp edges to cut or bottle opener needed.

sitting on your dad’s lap and “driving” the car into the garage was normal, not child endangerment nor peodifiliac.

I’d beg Mom to take me to the Buster Brown Shoe Store. They had an X-ray machine. You’d put your feet in the slot, wiggle your toes and watch it on a CRT at the top. No, I didn’t develop foot cancer...yet. :{)

Nicorette (sp) After years and years of puffing the time came when it was found necessary to do so, quit. The nicotine substitute in lozenge form has been my redemption. Until this method came on the market it was hopeless. Ashamed to say how long the OTC product has been used but it is certainly much longer than the instructions on the box. Doc. is aware and is fine with the use. The gum and the patch were worthless. The prescription drug -unable to use for various reasons. The lozenge is the only thing that works for me.

Living in western Michigan in the 80s, 99.99% of that list were still normal parts of life since we were one of the last places new trends made it to. I really do miss the pop machines with glass bottles. The sound of them falling and clink-clanking was part of the sound of summer.

All my relatives are in the Ludington area.
Spent the summers at my grandparents farm, in Custer.

I love west Michigan. It still feels a few years behind everywhere else, but not like before

Greatest ad campaign ever, is the Pure Michigan ads. It connects in to the nostalgia this thread describes.

I wish I could go back to west Michigan, of the 60's and 70's.

Collecting old tractors is a big hobby for some folks. We didn't have the Farmall as a collector's item though. My dad actually tried to use that piece of junk.

I ended up dismantling it as a training exercise in mechanics.

I remember when this saying actually had meaning:

“Don’t make a federal case out of it.”

(I only stepped on your toe . . . )

Nowadays, you'd here from their lawyer by days end.

Remember this one? “Will one of you kids get up and give the set a whack...it’s rolling again”

Moonpies. Believe there was also Banana Flips? Might not be the proper name for them but these were similar to moonpie only the were banana flavored. Never cared much for just banana. It always left a metal taste in my mouth. Banana pudding and banana bread were two favorite banana dishes. Or the old time favored ‘fruit salad’ aka ambrosia.

A fluoroscope. My local shoe store had one of those.

With the old time tee vee we had the rabbit ears. ALWAYS a challenge.

And remember the old test patterns? Do remember the one most often used was an Indian in his headdress. And before signing off for the evening the station would ALWAYS -STRESS-ALWAYS play The Star Spangled banner with images of our military being shown while the anthem was being played.

I recall the chest type soda coolers with sliding tops. Filled with melted ice water. On hot summer days it was refreshing to dunk a ten year old arm to cool off until the owner yelled out, “Hey kid! Make up your mind, you goin’ swimming or you gonna buy a Coke?”

;>)

I tended to get up early, so I regularly saw test patterns. Sometimes the National Anthem was played at the start of the broadcast day.

I use to buy those to go with other antiques I decorated my home with. The wood on some of those was striking...and they made for good storage areas.

I do remember a local grocerier who wrapped meet in paper with balls of string hanging from the ceiling. He had beautiful glass enclosed “cookie bins” with brass handles we’d always get a “free” cookie from when my mom went shopping there. A real treat for us.
