Narcissistic personality disorder
Wikipedia ^

Posted on 04/04/2016 8:36:42 PM PDT by UnwashedPeasant

Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is a personality disorder in which a person is excessively preoccupied with personal adequacy, power, prestige and vanity, mentally unable to see the destructive damage they are causing to themselves and often others.

People with narcissistic personality disorder are characterized by exaggerated feelings of self-importance. They have a sense of entitlement and demonstrate grandiosity in their beliefs and behavior. They have a strong need for admiration, but lack feelings of empathy.

In addition to these symptoms, the person may display arrogance, show superiority, and seek power. The symptoms of narcissistic personality disorder can be similar to the traits of individuals with strong self-esteem and confidence; differentiation occurs when the underlying psychological structures of these traits are considered pathological. Narcissists have such an elevated sense of self-worth that they value themselves as inherently better than others, when in reality they have a fragile self-esteem, cannot handle criticism, and often try to compensate for this inner fragility by belittling or disparaging others in an attempt to validate their own self-worth. Comments and criticisms about others are vicious from sufferers of NPD, in an attempt to boost their own poor self-esteem.

Another narcissist symptom is a lack of empathy. They are unable to relate, understand, and rationalize the feelings of others. Instead of behaving in a way that shows how they are feeling in the moment, they behave in the way that they feel they are expected to behave or that gives them the most attention.

hmmmm

The country has survived having one of these in the WH but I do detect another wannabe who may be almost as bad (though many are so deceived by his ideology they attack anyone who hints about potential character flaws)

Key is lack of empathy coupled with entitlement - that merely being themselves is enough to entitle them to success/accomplishments/your love. Careful those of you who think it's Trump ... narcissists generally substitute fantasy for accomplishment. Merely having a big ego and being a braggart is not enough. Trump has worked his a** off all his life. He could have taken his father's money and been a trust fund boy.

You can hate him, and he may have some bad character flaws (or not) ... but sorry, not a narcissist.

If Cruz is in fact dishonest ... he's sociopathic, not narcissistic. He's probably not paranoid, but he's along that spectrum.

There is something wrong

This sexual history and the unwillingness of people to take a hard look (abandoned by any semblance of journalistic investigation)

My God

Narcissism develops over time. The more narcissistic one gets, the more successful they tend to be. Narcissism just may have a bum rap.

The losers get the narcissism ground out of them during the course of their life.

Entirely agree. It’s a clinical/pathological diagnosis that is very different than just being arrogant, or even self-centered. Trump is arrogant, but not a clinical narcissist. I have personal experience with a narcissist, and it has had a huge impact on my life. Narcissists can be very destructive. It’s not a term to just throw out there.

I have an ex-wife that is NPD. NONE of the GOP candidates are NPD. Trust me.

Narcissism doesn’t develop over time at all. It happens in the formative years, namely 18-36 months. All children are naturally narcissistic. The failure to grow out of it causes many problems today...But it doesn’t develop over time.

Don't be mentioning Jim Herman, who just won the Houston Open, and got himself a tee time at the Masters:

"[Trump} said, 'What are you doing folding shirts and giving lessons here at my club? I've played with PGA Tour players and you're just as good as them,'" Herman told the New York Post in 2015. "That was a little shot in the arm for me."

I honestly desire to know where you come to your beliefs about Cruz.

P,ease be,specific in your explanations, not merely repeating charges by Trump or other Trump supporters, or innuendos.

Again, I honestly want to know how you came to believe your charges about Cruz.

THis is not a challenge but a real question: Do you have some sources? The narcissists I know the best just keep reminding me of 18 month old kids — some with”phallic” features. So your post got my attention.

Bingo. Cruz is a sociopath. Exhibits all the tendencies and characteristics of one. Having no friends is the clincher.
