Very good posting at your #44.
I posted before reading the thread that I felt the definition of NPD matched Trump. .....After reading through the postings, I have pulled back from that and will just say he is narcissistic instead of NPD.
There is a fine line between charactetistics of a narcissist and a sociopath and I’m unable to determine the difference in people. They are both ruthless.
Are you seeking input and help for your NP disorder?
That pretty much describes the slimy Cruz.
That’s Mr. Lying Ted to you sir! ;-)
Melania told her husband, “We have a good life”. She said this in response to Hannity asking her why she at first didn’t want him to run for POTUS. She said in descibing him, He has a good heart, he helps people” Her belief is that he can help America. If this is so, he is what my pastor would define as himble. Turning to do what you are led to do is an act of humility.
Himble=humble
Same with me tinyowl. I grew up in a family which was highly active in conservative politics, so I was subtly trained to look for elect ability. I have been busy with other things for years now, husband, children and work in my community and have fallen out of the obsession with watching politics night and day as I used to, but my friend in Ga. who is Evangelical went on and on about Cruz so I watched him. I was stunned, felt the same things you did.
I don’t believe for an instant he is disliked in the Senate because he is so conservative, too many likable conservatives come to mind, I believe it is something else.
Reagan was personally liked by many liberals for his personality even if they hated his policies, he had charm and class.
Cruz like Reagan? A joke right?
“Careful those of you who think it’s Trump ... narcissists generally substitute fantasy for accomplishment.”
I note the word “generally” in your remark. Trump may not be “a narcissist”, but he’s got a narcissistic streak a mile wide. The really troubling things, though, are his distinct lack of a moral compass, his general lack of coherence, his ever-changing positions on issues, and his highly volatile temperament.
Neither he or Clinton are presidential material. That they are front runners shows clearly how bad things are in America today.
I have taken to calling the race for POTUS the Quadrennial American Personality Disorder Contest.
One thing that interest me about Trump's behavior is the constant need he has to tell us how smart he is. Likely driven by feelings of inadequacy, lack of self-esteem and self-confidence. If I had him on the couch, I'd be asking about his relationship with his father.
Not picking on Trump, I think all the candidates are nuttier than squirrel turds. Seems to be a requirement for the job.
The DSM is written by extreme left-wing liberals. The DSM V (revision 5) is a disaster. Some practitioners won’t even use it other than when required for billing.
A key requisite for technical manager in public broadcasting.
Was there a picture of Obama there?
I agree with you. Having been a victim of someone with this narcissistic personality DISORDER. Can people be narcissistic...absolutely and most people are from time to time. In order for a person to be diagnosed with NPD it has to be extreme and evident in every daily encounter. The person literally lives in a fantasy world over 90% of the time.
Neither Trump nor Cruz fall into that scale. Both men are highly accomplished in their arena of expertise, both men have worked very hard at their skillsets. We as voters do need to be careful not to assign amateur hour psyche evaluations to these two men.
Compare them to 0bama and suddenly the contrast between ambition and narcissism become more profound. 0bama has been awarded things all his life based on the color of his skin and very little with his ability...yet he meets many of the criteria for having this particular personality disorder. I for one will be very happy to see him leave office and pray we don’t run into a situation where he thinks he can postpone elections. 0bama’s lack of empathy shows at funerals, (Mandela funeral selfie with Merkel), failure to attend funerals of high ranking dignitaries lately indicates he is even deeper into the disorder.
Now, consider this description compared to Hillary? Her lifelong thinking she is above the law, lifelong liar, and she comes of this campaign sounding like ‘she deserves’ the Presidency. NPD is easy to see in men and is often missed in women due to political correctness, but Hillary is as bad as 0bama and may actually be worse! Who would dare accuse her of having a severe personality disorder? And the whole democratic machine enables her.
Might it be just backing up what others say about him that you agree with against him, not that you can list negative objective items against him?
Agree, it is very true that a person with this disorder can be so good as to go to therapy and even fool the therapist!
I’ve gone through the same thing. My mother is NPD. To make matters worse she was a stunningly beautiful only child of wealthy parents. Bad combination. I spent a lot of time with quack shrinks as a kid. She never did find one who could fix her defective son.
plus, posting from Wikipedia over the years has either been prohibited or very much frowned upon by moderators; otherwise, we’d have hundreds of Wikipedia postings daily is my guess. Is the moderator asleep at the switch?
There is a fantastic book called “Why is it always about you?” where I learned a ton about NPD and Narcissism in general. That’s one of my sources. There are other free sources online if you start the research. The book was very helpful for me.
I learned to completely disassociate with Narcissists when I see them. And they’re not everywhere even though there are folks with some tendencies.
