An absolutely fantastic book.
I agree. That much I remember. But the plot, the characters, ...
Getting old is hard.
There is a sequel. Wonder if its any good? Ive been reading “The Lost Fleet” series again. Pretty good.
Huge Pournelle fan here. Well, Niven as well, but Pournelle for his computer writings back in the day and for his blog for the last 15 years or so, as well as the science fiction. I’m a patron of his site:

Hmmm, and this is new:

He really, really, really went into detail on the ms he was sent. Pretty cool indeed.
Freegards
One of my favorites.
Bump for later, link doesn’t work at work.
Moties !
“The Roads Must Roll”
Another great story and the fact that the editor/publisher came up with it is even better.
It’s been a long time since I read The Mote in God’s Eye. I enjoyed it greatly.
Maybe it would make a good movie or mini-series. It would have to be better than most sci-fi videos of late.
Not as good as the first, but worth the read, wraps things up.
Pournelle's daughter (I think)wrote one called "Outies" or something that reviews did rate so high, not read that one, but somehow connected to Mote series.
I once decided to run down the list of Hugo/Nebula Award winners and read them all. I did skip a few, but generally, it was a good reading plan. Lots of good stuff that I wouldn't have otherwise read.
I recently tried rereading Asimov's Foundation Trilogy and...it just didn't hold up. Story is good, but is writing just wasn't.
As soon as I found Jack Vance, though....Really good stuff even if I did need to cheat with an occasional dictionary lookup. I call any man a liar who didn't!
Heinlein was a hero of mine.
He gave me a libertarian streak.
Been a Pournelle fan since 1984 when I discovered his book “The Survival of Freedom” edited by John F. Carr. Apparently, this book won something called “the Prometheus Award” for one of the best books of the 20th Century. Jerry is currently writing other books with Larry Niven and has just re-issued his “There will be War” series available today on Amazon. He is also one of the authors of “The strategy of Technology”, which has been used as a text book for our Military colleges. It also has been updated and the new version is available today. I keep suggesting that serious conservatives find, get and read his “The Survival of Freedom”. I have been trying to convince him to re-issue this book as I think it is more important than his War series. Of course, I love all of his fiction too.
Bump.
Too bad they basically mocked him with the movie adaptation of "Starship Troopers"
Thanks for those reading tips. Never read “There will be War” so I’ll get right on that!
