There are two mysteries here. First, why were the less intelligent people more likely to lie? Second, why were the smarter liars so sheepish about going for the maximum payoff?
Ruffle and Tobol believe that more intelligent people may be more cautious about the consequences of lying. Dishonesty can make a situation better in the short term, but who knows what will happen down the road, especially if the lie eventually comes out?

Its the frequency of the lying that her comment makes more sense to be discussing.
Which is why muslims cannot be trusted more than they can be thrown. They have at least 4 sanctioned lying techniques. Al taqiyaa, al tawriya, al kitman, al muruna.
But, is that because stupid people are more likely to be criminal or just more likely to be caught?
Plus, the OP contains a lie: “If everyone were honest, each number would be reported with 1/6 chance.” Only statistically, not necessarily on any given trial.
Yet I have run into people who consider honesty to be indicative of mental retardation.

Depends on how you read it.
The statement is true if he is talking about the final numbers of the study which aggregate all (presumably a lot) of the individual results...:^)
