When I was a kid, the milkman came right to our back door. He brought us bright glass bottles of rich whole milk and thick sweet cream. We drank a lot of milk. Nobody had heard of skim. On weekends my dad cooked up breakfasts of eggs fried in butter, piles of bacon, delicious German sausages. For dinner, we had big chunks of fatty meat every night.
That was in the 1950s. Nobody was fat, except for one lone girl at school who everybody picked on. Most kids ate like horses and were skinny as rakes.
Then the experts came along and declared that all that fat was killing us. Whole milk was banished from childrens diets so that they would not develop clogged arteries and heart disease in later life. To keep our cholesterol in check, we began to ration eggs and treat butter like a toxic substance. We gave up our juicy, marbled steaks and switched to pasta. Ever since the 1960s, the authorities have told us that a healthy diet is a low-fat diet.
The results were not what they had hoped. Obesity rates soared, but heart disease did not subside. And now, a mountain of new evidence says the experts were all wrong. One Harvard study found that people who had consumed the most dairy fat were far less likely to develop heart disease. Researchers at Oxford University discovered that the biggest consumers of saturated fat in Europe the French also have the healthiest hearts.

I demand reparations for all the dry toast and bland baked potatoes I’ve had to eat the last 30 years!
!!! BUT THERE WAS CONSENSUS !!!
We were skinny, as kids in the 1960’s, because our parents wanted us out of the house and riding bikes or playing games and sports all the time. In my neighborhood, we would play all day outside in the summer, and several hours after school on school days. It was hard to take in enough calories to sustain the activity level. As to obese kids, I only remember a few, while, today, it seems most are overweight.
Fat doesn’t make us fat, carbs do. Don’t believe me? Check out Fed Gov’s food pyramid.
After what was probably many millions of tax payer subsidized research dollars they seem to have gotten it wrong. Who woulda thunk it. I guess the government answer is going to be to give more money to Uncle Jasper’s research so that he can maintain the lifestyle that he and his family have grown accustomed to.
Try popping corn in coconut oil. Heaven!
So, how come 2% milk doesn’t cost 98% less than whole milk?
I gave up on that junk and switched to 1/2 and 1/2.
The bacon grease was more or less “free.” We had bacon and eggs three or more times a week.
The government likes to latch onto such "evidence" because of its potential for new spending programs, the expansion of their own empires, and newfound regulations to control others.
I’m still convinced that butter was best, and that the “healthy” margarine crap wasn’t fit to lube wheel bearings with.
I’ve known this by sheer common sense all my life. In general if God put it here it’s fine, anything is in moderation. I never ate margarine. I’ve always eaten eggs, as many as I wanted (since I raise chickens). Meat? Yes, please. People need to use common sense, what’s better the natural thing or something man created in a lab somewhere?
That’s the modus operandi in DC: take from the taxpayers and give to the bureaucrats and technocrats.
And the "Science" was settled.
But now we have drug-dealers, molesting illegals, and busy-bodies who call the cops for NOTHING.
Next scam to be exposed based on faulty, cherry picked data:

I am waiting for proof statins are contributing to increased Dementia and Alzheimer’s.
Heck, just check out the grocery carts of those behemoth welfare queens with their passel of snot nosed, screaming brats: chips, sodas, cakes, sugary cereals, cookies and donuts with nary a fresh fruit or veggie in sight
Margarine is one molecule away from being plastic. Butter much better way to go.
I think the whole low fat craze has been based on a misdiagnosis. In the 50's many, many more adults smoked. The heart disease caused by the nicotine clogging arteries was incorrectly blamed on their diet.
Insects will not eat margarine, why should you?
