The NHL is investigating the possible use of a homophobic slur by Chicago Blackhawks forward Andrew Shaw during Game 4 of the Western Conference quarterfinals Tuesday night at the United Center.
NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said in an e-mail to the Tribune on Wednesday, "yes we are looking into it, and no we can't comment on it until that process is complete."
After being assessed an interference penalty late in the Blues 4-3 victory, Shaw was yelling at officials while seated in the penalty box and video of the incident appeared to show him using a homophobic slur.

Oh, but they already have. It's called state human rights commissions. Whereby the government can now set standards on the speech of private entities in order for them to participate in the public square.
Unless you feel that is a vested state interest on par with health and safety codes.
And while we're all standing around being good little libertarians and talking about how the first amendment doesn't apply to private entities the entire tyrannical network has grown around us. But you keep on holding on to that little technicality nugget. I hope it keeps you warm at night.
How is it that all these NBA jerks can sport Black Lives Matter armbands and spout their racist gibberish, but a hockey player in the box can't call someone a fag without being burned at the stake?
Recess games included “smear the queer” and “Tag the Fag” in grade school.
Oh well.
Slap shot?
That movie, Slapshot, was the funniest sports movie that I have ever seen. I loved the music on the sound track too.
I remember seeing Dodger All-Star 1st Baseman Steve Garvey on a talk show describing a game against the Reds, when he noticed that runner Dave Concepcion was wearing a bracelet. He joked from that point on he called him “Miss Concepcion”.
How things have changed.
If he had been arrested by agents of the government, you might have a point. As it is, his employer makes the rules. He can either abide by them or find another job.
Both the NHL and NBA are private organizations which can and do have different standards and rules.
If the NHL hockey player does not like the standards set by the NHL, he is free to go play for a minor league independent hockey team in some small town in North Dakota.
A hockey player used a homosexual slur from the penalty box in the heat of battle??? The horror!!! String him up!!!
or the KHL, in Russia.
That’s one movie that could never be made today.
Twenty years ago was 1996. If you didn’t know by then where this country was headed you weren’t paying attention. AIDS propaganda and Anita Bryant’s dismissal from public view were 15-20 years before then.
Ahh! But the government does dictate to private companies the standards they set for employees. i.e. the minimum wage, for example. Also, the I-9 that everyone has to fill out. All the employment laws, as well.
So government does dictate to the private employer. Woe be to those who don't comply with those dictates.
Have you ever had any dealing with Labor and Industries? You will see, as an employer just how little rights you have.
I watched this poor SOB on the news, apologizing. He looked completely forlorn and depressed - you’d have thought he was confessing to a murder. It is unbelievable what the PC culture has done to this generation.
