Daily Mail Online ^ | April 21, 2016 | Chris Summers

A McDonald’s customer has been charged with robbery after he emptied a cup of water and filled it up with soda from a machine in a restaurant in Arkansas.

Cody Morris, 18, and two pals went to a drive-thru in Springdale and and asked for large cups of water. But they then parked their car and dumped their cups before filling them up with soda. [snip]

But Morris reversed his car and drove off, allegedly hitting the manager as he made his getaway. Police arrested Morris at a nearby bowling alley. It is unclear if he will face any charges apart from felony robbery.

My wife works the counter at a McDonalds and sees numbers of people pulling the same scam every day, filling up with soda instead of water. It is theft and it illustrates the lawlessness of so many people in society today. They see nothing wrong with it. A certain ethnic group does this illegal activity more than all the others combined. Can you guess which one? My wife uses a remote cut-off switch when she spots a violation and receives all kinds of foul looks and curses when she does it. I have warned her that someday some thug will jump the counter and hurt her for doing it.

Felony robbery occurs when a robbery involves some other act(s) that are, by themselves, felonies. Hence, felony murder when a bank robbery turns bad. In this case, the morons in question couldn’t even steal a cup of soda without stupidly committing a felony.

“but if the only charge is robbery, how is this a felony?”

Google is your friend.

A certain amount of loss is a cost of business, right? Cheaper than having an employee fill all the drinks for customers.

After reading exactly what this did I agree. The headline is a lie. The kid had an elaborate plan to steal and nearly killed someone with his car.

Another a$$hole headline. The customer asked for cups for water, and obviously paid nothing. Then filled the cups with soda.
Then hitting the manager with his car.
Robbery and assault, plus evading responsibility.
Change the lying headline.

Can we have a serious talk about banning cars now. A car was used in a crime it has to be bad.

Aeons ago I went to open a place of business where I worked, and found that thieves had broken, entered, and stolen from it then departed.

I called the cops, identifed who and where I was, and told them we had been robbed.

They came screaming up in three squad cars expecting some kind of ongoing confrontation.

They took a report, and gave me a lecture on the difference between robbery and burglary, robbery and theft.

“A certain amount of loss is a cost of business, right?”

Loss from theft has always been a factor in business, but some business owners still have principles and will not be passive about theft. More than a few undesirables have been shown the door at that McDonalds. That is the kind of repeat business they don’t want.

Robbery is always a felony. Robbery is using force to steal. Running over the manager to get away is what changed it from a petty misdemeanor larceny into a felony.

The value of what was stolen doesn’t matter if you use force or violence.
It a stickup man wanted a snickers, he would get a felony robbery charge.

Well, see, liberals drive their cars and actually like them. So no, you wont hear them talk about carsmin this context.

Besides they may want to run over some gun loving conservatives someday and need to have them for at least one crack at it.
