The voices of the people gathered at Broad Street United Methodist Church resounded from its wooden peaks as they each raised a hand on Saturday and blessed the Rev. David Meredith and Jim Schlachter on their wedding day.
"Now that Jim and David have extended their 28-year commitment to one another with solemn vows, we announce to one another, the United Methodist Church, the state of Ohio and the world entire that they are married," the crowd said.
With those words, Meredith joined the ranks of United Methodist ministers who have defied the denomination's rules and risk being defrocked by coming out as gay or presiding over same-sex weddings. And it was no coincidence that the ceremony was held just three days before the United Methodist Church kicks off its general Conference in Portland, Oregon, where delegates will debate changing those rules.
Meredith, who pastors at Clifton United Methodist Church in Cincinnati, served as senior pastor at Broad Street from 1997 to 2012.
Ordained in 1983, he considers the church's laws on homosexuality unjust and immoral.

They should call it more mirage.
He’s a reverend? Why? He sounds like a Satanist.
I keep hoping this is intended as humor.
“Now that Jim and David have extended their 28-year commitment to one another with solemn vows, we announce to one another, the United Methodist Church, the state of Ohio and the world entire that they are married.”
“Now that Jim and David have extended their 28-year commitment to one another with solemn vows, we announce to one another, the United Methodist Church, the state of Ohio and the world entire that they are penguins.”
Words have meanings. These activists can pretend that “Jim and David” are married, or that they are penguins, but playing make-believe doesn’t make either one true.
I know the Methodist are against drinking. Their “communion wine” is grape juice.
No, there genes will not mix. They will only mix their feces—it such a progressive thing. The rimming and felching are now sanctioned.
How disgustingly heteronormative of you! :-D
With all respect to any Methodist Freepers, the last time the hubby and I were in a Methodist church, the pastor’s husband talked about how much he couldn’t stand Baptists. This was spoken of on the altar right before his wife, the church’s pastor, launched into a long-winded and boring sermon about John Wesley. Not much time at all on the Lord or His Word. I spent most of her rant on my phone, checking in with Facebook, because the Christian memes were more edifying.
“United Methodist Church” - three falsehoods in one phrase.
#8 ~ “An abomination before God.”
... the Rev. David Meredith and Jim Schlachter on their wedding day...
Rev. David Meredith is NOT a Reverend, and this is NOT a marriage! I would like to see their liberal heads explode if they recognized these truths.
Rather their heads would implode; such is the nature of a vacuum!
Faggies rule, haven’t you heard?
Couple marries in defiance of church
Correct Headline
Couple marry in defiance of God!
I guess he just never read the bible.
Look at it from the Reverend’s point of view: A “man” has got to do what he’s got to do.”
/S—note the quotes around “man.”
These two perverts are married only in the eyes of Satan.
What a honeymoon he has planned for the homosexual duo.
Is their gift registry with the local proctologist? Will donations to the local AIDS clinic be collected? Oh the dilemma of choosing between KY Jelly and Preparation H as a suitable gift.
In other words, it is "approved" by lack of consequences.
Wrong. Their affirmation of homosexuality firmly disqualifies them as Christians.
Go to their website. It explains a lot. From the staff page: “As a former music educator, Pastor David is also really excited to be engaged in the congregations vibrant childrens ministry and excellent music and arts endeavors.”
I’m sure he is.
They are coprophiliacs.
For them, poop is a fundamental part of their secks act.
They are poo-flingers the same as monkeys in the zoo.
