The MacBook Pro and Air lines are overdue for an update, and customers are noticing. New MacBook purchases are down compared to the first quarter of last year, suggesting customers don't see a reason to pay Apple's premium pricing right now.

One of several reasons my old 4s was replaced with an android phone.

I’m running an i7-6700K Skylake Hackintosh, so I get to enjoy OS X without paying Apple’s prices. Really the best of both worlds.

Something you are missing. Durability and longevity.

I'm still using an original MacBook Air (2008)
I have a still working Powerbook G4 12”
in a production setting

The Darned things just keep working

There is a sizable difference between PCI-e SSD and HD form factor SSD
One runs a PCIe speeds, the other at SATA speed.
Memory for PCIe is much more expensive.

Fully agree. Now tell me which company besides Apple does not fully agree with him about gays, and does not celebrate them just as much?

It’s sickening, but you are delusional if you think Apple is gay and nobody else in the industry is.

They probably all do. But you see there is a big difference when you flaunt it and ascribe it to God for all the impressionable minds of the world. Believe it or not the CEO has, and he particularly with Apple, one of the biggest platforms for social effect. Again my point is being completely missed. I’m sure there are many gays in the industry. But when the CEO utters blasphemies than he’s taken it to a new level.

For a laptop, that's about all that's out there. They have very compact docking stations now that will handle ethernet, vga, and all the other options you could ever want for $200. That's not much on an $1800 pc

The single port USB-C can really keep the size down.

Apple's real screw up was not offering Thunderbolt 3 in their latest release. It is still T2. Most other makers have been offering T3 for almost a year.

Thunderbolt 3 because of it's massive bandwidth is a real game changer and Apple being the slackers they are said

Our users don't deserve the best'. We can charge them out the ass for it too.
We'll give them what what we can make the most profit on, we don't have any competition.

Exactly the same philosophy of the telephone companies.

Well I you are willing to believe that no one ever has any issues with a Mac, never replaces the, nor even have to get it serviced, which is absurd stuff Apple users love to parrot.

Then why is it too hard to grasp that those of use that use Windows 10 are able to use it just fine? That just because you hear someone say it, then that mist mean they are some loon that obviously needs some “help”?

Kind of makes me thrilled to see Apple sales fall all around
Maybe it will knock the smug and snob out of their users.

One of younger relatives was accepted to an highly rated private high school last fall.

The students have to have a laptop with good WiFi reception. He is very knowledgeable re computers. We bought his sister at a sister school the top I pad two years ago. She is still using it everyday for 2+years with zero problems.

We told him, we would buy him what he needed in his school. He asked us to buy him an Chromebook 15 like I have. His mother is a Apple addict and said the IT at his new school would only help kids with Macs. So, we bought him a Mac Air. It is slow, it has been back to The Apple Store to correct problems twice. The crack IT at his school was no help, besides recommending The Apple Store.

When, he comes up here, he leaves his Mac Air at home and uses my Chromebook. At times he has 12+ tabs ready to quickly go to. If he needs to copy, send or document something, he uses Google Docs to do that with his own GMail acct..

The school he used to attend has gone to Chromebooks since last fall for the library and some classrooms. They couldn’t figure out how to use a printer with the Chromebooks. I showed him how to use a HP 4500 to connect to the cloud or wirelessly with a Chromebook. He showed a friend, who attends that school. Now they have printers that work wirelessly or via the cloud.

He told his mother, that we could have bought him two Chromebooks, one to keep at school and one at home to avoid carrying them around, and Acer Android Tablet and a new HP printer for home for less than what we paid for his Air Mac.

I had one for years. A 2011 Macbook Pro. I sold it a couple of months ago for almost half of what I paid.

My experience was they OS started a downhill slide after Leopard (2012). If you want to upgrade to an SSD for instance you find they put cheap a cheap HDD cable that can’t support the bandwidth. Around the end of 2012 Apple put the kabosh on owner upgrades by soldering in stuff and bricking computers via subsequent OS Upgrades(el captain fart sniffer).

That time period is when Jobs Left and Captain Hook came on board.

Over all it was a excellent experience but I would never do that now.

The MacBooks are horribly overpriced for the teensy amount of memory they offer. I made the switch a year or so ago from PC and loved my MacBook Pro, I trimmed back significantly what I store locally and used an external drive, and still ran short on memory. Also ran into some of the same problems I had with PCs in terms of memory issues, etc. I just got a nice HP with Windows 10 that has 4X the memory at half the cost of the MacBook. I am super impressed with Windows 10. I loved the Apple OS and the total interconnectivity with my phone and tablet, but otherwise, the difference in user experience is non-existence. I think Apple needs to get into this decade in storage space or they’ll have more issues.

When I had mine, I upgraded the memory from 4gb to 16gb for $125 and boy did it make a difference. They solder it in now so it’s not up-gradable.

“I don’t use one anymore at all, except at the office. iPad and iPhone is all I need.”

You are not by yourself. We have younger relatives in middle to upper management jobs which require them to be out of their offices. That combo has made laptops no longer necessary in many work situations. Ironically two of them didn’t want to give up their laptops, and their management said that the laptops were not cost effective in the field.

Now, they couldn’t get by without their I Pads/Phones.

Nothing wrong with windows 10

I just recovered data for a neighbor who has a Windows 10 desktop. Totally corrupted hard drive and failed OS. After not being able to get any data by connecting to another Windows machine, he took the hard drive to a data recovery shop, they wanted $2400 to attempt recovery. Then he came to me.

I used my Apple Mac Mini and it's utilities to mount and fix errors, and recovered all his data for him. Told him he would be better off getting a Mac, as Windows machines are prone to failure, often because of using inferior hard drives. Mac drives are higher quality. He forced me to take $200, because I saved his data. Went and spent it on some apps for my Mac.

Of course, but Apple still sells a ton machine with spinning hard drives for premium prices

My argument is their offerings are old, and they want a premium for that old technology

Of course in the $7,000 Mac Pro desktop they use the best of the best, but then again you are paying super top dollar so you should get the best of the best

BTW the Intel PCIe Enterprise class SSD can be had on New Egg for under $800, just priced one out the other day
