A Bloodbath of Shows Axed for New Shows to Debut Next Season

It wasn't quite the Red Wedding, but Thursday brought viewers news of more than a dozen prime-time shows being axed to make room for new programs next season.

ABC took the sword to seven series (including country music drama "Nashville" and veteran whodunit "Castle") while Fox is sacrificing five freshman shows, including comedies starring aging pretty boys Rob Lowe and John Stamos.

Meanwhile, CBS is deleting "CSI: Cyber" after this, its sophomore season, thus laying to rest the "CSI" dynasty that encompassed four series during a 16-year span.

The official body count — as well as new programming blood for the 2016-2017 season — will be rolled out next week at the networks' "upfront" sessions for advertisers.

But through a combination of network leaks and networks jumping the gun, a flood of announcements got early exposure Thursday.

“Looks like it is going to be ION if we watch anything in the evenings. At least Blue Bloods is still on.”

All we watch is ION and the retros anymore. Oh, and Blue Bloods and Person Of Interest, but POI is gone too.

The Muppets

I hated that character "Chip, the IT Guy."

The quality of Castle has noticeably dropped off the last few years, this season in particular. I'm not surprised that it was cancelled.

I barely watch TV these days. I like The Expanse. It had ten episodes and now I have to wait until 2017 for the next season. I liked Longmire. Great show, did well in the ratings - but not with the “right demographic” - so A&E canceled it and is not a Netflix series. I don’t have Netflix. I like Game of Thrones (since I read the books starting 16 years ago), but I don’t have cable (I do have HBO Now which I almost never use).

I hate PC garbage. Thus, I don’t watch much TV (other than news I suppose).

As long as CBS doesn’t cancel my five favorite shows.

it was pierced on krypton when she was a little girl.

Nope. She doesn’t have pierced ears as a little girl on the show. Go look.

I believe Gibbs is on NCIS not CSI.

According to the producers of the show, she got them pierced as a young girl on Krypton.

But if you Google shots of her as a young girl on the show, her ears aren’t pierced.

I've recently started watching Asian shows/dramas. That, and some of the European shows on Mhz.

At least the quirks are different from the cookie-cutter US shows. Then again, lots of those shows are up to 30 years old, too.

All are from prolific producer Greg Berlanti, who has placed yet another show at CW for next season, "Riverdale." Based on the Archie Comics characters, "Riverdale" was described by the network as a present-day "surprising and subversive take" on Archie, Betty, Veronica and their friends. Lili Reinhart, Cole Sprouse and Luke Perry are among the stars.

I honestly shudder to think what this will be.

“To be replaced by shows with queers in leading roles.”

And feminist nags outsmarting metrosexual men, and 95 pound girls slaughtering armies of ninjas in hand to hand combat.

“...how Supergirl got her ears pierced...”

I imagine she had to do it herself. What I want to know is how she will....oh, never mind. That’s what Superboy is for.

"Time After Time," ABC. Based on the novel and movie, with writer H.G. Wells (Freddie Stroma) traveling through time to modern Manhattan in search of Jack the Ripper.

I really hope they do a good job with this. I love that movie.

If you haven’t seen them yet, there are two KDrama’s I highly recommend, “My Love From the Star” and “Descendants of the Sun”.

I have never seen any of these shows, the only series that I have watched recently was “The Man in the High Castle” but that is an Amazon thing.
I wonder if they are going to bring it back..

The “cliffhanger” I disliked the most was “Revolution”, a dystopia series in a post-industrial world, in which electricity could no longer be used, because of the suppressive presence of nanobots with a sort of artificial intelligence.

I guess they just wrote themselves into a corner and could not make any resolution that would be satisfactory from a plausible perspective.

I'll probably miss Castle as a light comedy drama, but they quality of the epis has been increasingly declining. I figured it was time to stick a fork in it when they aired the "immigrant" epi this season.

You’re right - but Mookie was on there and we don’t watch any more.
