Disagreements slow Pentagon’s plan to allow transgender service members

Months before Defense Secretary Ashton B. Carter said the Pentagon would take steps toward allowing transgender people to serve openly in the military, Army Staff Sgt. Patricia King last year became what she believes is the first openly transgender member of the infantry. While official Pentagon policy still forbids openly transgender personnel, her commanders have been supportive, she said. King even purchased a female dress Army service uniform, anticipating that she would be able to wear it soon.

“I made a decision that owning that uniform was important to me, and I believe that our leadership is going to do the right thing,” she said.

But four months after a deadline set Carter set for a working group to finish evaluating the change, transgender service members are still waiting. Officials say disagreements remain in the Defense Department about how to move forward, suggesting that the Pentagon isn’t close to wrapping up the review, let alone instituting any changes.

Read this through the looking glass. Any time it uses a gender identifier, its really the opposite gender they are talking about. He is really she and She is really he. If the person in the first photo started life as a woman, he/she needs to be tested for steroids with those big arms. The Army Staff Sergeant down in the article has one of the ugliest mugs I have ever seen. He can tell me he is a woman from now on but one looks makes him a liar. Meanwhile, those of us who served in pre Obama days can only sit by and wonder how our military will recover. I am sick here looking at this.

Can I ask a stupid question?

Since it took an act of Congress to allow gays in the military openly, why doesn’t it take an act of Congress to allow transwhatever individuals to openly serve???

I would resign my commission before I let one of my Sergeants (this guy is no NCO) undermine morale and unit cohesion like this SSG King must be doing.

There were many here in FR who celebrated the appointment of Ashton Carter...

A question for the Defense Department: Does a man who self-identifies as a woman still have to register for the draft?

If there is argument at the Pentagon, that means Obama was NOT able to get rid of ALL the patriots at the Pentagon...

There are still a few hiding out....

So which uniform clothing allowance would a gender fluid person receive? Male or female? There is a difference.

Please Lord, have mercy on us. I know our nation is attempting to be more sinful and disgusting than Sodom and Gomorrah, but there are still many of us who despise such behavior.

Tempest in a teapot.

Only .5-1.5% of the population is homo/bisexual.
The percentage of transsexuals is even a smaller fraction of that minuscule itsy-bitsy percentage.
Bottom line: we're looking at less that ten American people. Tempest in a teapot to sell newspapers, so to speak.

Those men-to-women will still age like the males they were born and the women-to-men will still age like the women they were born. DNA trumps all and those pathetic souls will just have to deal with it.

I think it's the saddest thing on earth to hate one's own gender. Changing some plumbing does NOTHING. They OUGHT to be as concerned about their immortal souls as they are about their plumbing. THAT deal IS for eternity.

Am I right armydawg505 or what?

That isn't how the Left advances their agenda. They operate under the principle of "negative approval." I'll use Don't Ask, Don't Tell (DADT) for an example...

Step 1: Identify special interest group. In this case it is homosexuals in the military.

Step 2: Isolate the problem. Homosexuals are not allowed to openly serve.

Step 3: Compromise on a half-solution. Homosexuals may serve... but not openly... DADT.

Step 4: Implement the compromise and wait for the inconsistencies. DADT allows homosexuals to serve but not openly... same problem from a different perspective.

Step 5: Repeal the compromise solution and "revert" to the "solution." With DADT repealed, now homosexuals may serve openly since the law was the reason they could not serve openly.

This is a time-proven methodology they have employed a number of times.

Does it make sense for the military to jump through hoops to meet the self perceived needs of transgenders? The mission of the military is to fight. If only 1 to 2% of the nation is gay, then what percent is transgendered? Jumping through hoops just doesn’t make sense. The military needs to focus on being an effective fighting force, and not this cr*p.

Too late for those officers and NCOs who were purged - and are still being purged - under the guise of "reductions in force due to budget constraints." The left is good at that kind of game.

WTF!?!

Let’s pray we retain the house and the senate and Trump wins — Because if Monica Lewinsky’s boyfriends wife wins there will be doubling down of this insanity.

The US military at some point will hardly be able to defeat the weakest military.

How many transgender are there and how many are in the military or would want to serve? We are turning the whole military upside down for just one or two individuals

Has anyone asked how these people are to be considered deployable, or is that just too un-PC?

When MrT5 retired from the Army-1990-plenty of people who required daily medication for a chronic condition were considered non-deployable, given a disability rating and discharged. His last year as a VA benefits counselor-in 2008-he said joked that if someone wanted out on a service related disability, all they had to do was claim they were depressed and get a scrip for antidepressant meds. I’m sure MrT5 is beating his head on some wall in the next life, seeing this...

How is it that suddenly someone who requires daily doses of hormones to keep up the appearance of a fake gender-never mind that they are emotionally unstable-is now deployable-after all, what could possibly go wrong...
