Drop-tests are always fun to watch, but I’ve always felt that the reliability of most of them is suspect simply because there are so many variables.
Most involve someone dropping a phone by hand, and the distance is often as imprecisely measured as ‘waist height’ or ‘head height,’ making it hard to be sure both phones experienced exactly the same force. Dropping a phone from a hand can result in differences in initial angles, and releasing one side of the phone a fraction of a second before the other can impart a rotation to the device. In short, most drop-tests are more entertainment than science.
But the latest drop-test competition between the iPhone 6s and Samsung Galaxy S7 is done properly, using professional equipment designed to ensure that both phones are released in exactly the same way from exactly the same height.
Sure, you’d still ideally want to do it a few hundred times and average the results, but that could get a little expensive.
The test also goes a little further than most in that it’s a ‘to the death’ fight: both phones are dropped repeatedly until they are not only cosmetically destroyed, but cease working altogether. I won’t spoil all the fun, but there’s a clear winner …
“Nope just tired of it”
Tired of what? Go look over on a MS story, and you think me pointing out a mismatched headline and story, is the worse thing you’ve ever read?
“Get over it Apple is not going away because they sell products that people are willing pay more for. You don’t want to pay don’t buy Apple but let those of us that are willing to pay more, do so in peace.”
What in the world does that have to do with this story again? The fact that you Apple guys are so sensitive, and take every criticism and critique of Apple so personally, like it’s a consented effort to get between you and your iDevice, is the reason why this is so drawn out.
No one is standing at the Apple store door preventing you from getting anything.
So dramatic.
No one requires you to butt into the Apple threads but here you are as sure as the setting sun. These threads are for people wanting to know more about Apple products, we do not need some one to tell us we are dupes.
Like a you guys show up on every Apple thread not unlike Cruisers to Trump threads. (Cruz lost)
Truth is I never remember any of your posts because they are the same old cr@p Apple stupid, Apple evil, Apple doomed, Apple users suckers, Apple broke...
I responded because you insulted Swordmaker, and that is the only reason. I do not wonder over to the M$ threads and post insults and read mundane comments posted by M$ users, because I don't use M$ products nor do I own any. I read the Swordmaker threads because they are about products I own and use.
“Truth is I never remember any of your posts because they are the same old cr@p Apple stupid, Apple evil, Apple doomed, Apple users suckers, Apple broke...”
Really?
Fine post some exact quotes and lets see you prove it.
“I responded because you insulted Swordmaker”
Ok. Point out the “insult”.
Go ahead I DARE you to try.
I’ll wait....likely for a long time.
Save you clicking on the article.Swordmaker only posts articles like this if Apple is considered to be the winner. Otherwise he will call it FUD or accuse the writers of rigging the test.
If you don't think this is an insult then we have no basis to discus your comment. I noticed several posters think it as as well. Of course there are the usual Apple trolls joining in with you.
That is not an insult. That is the pattern of his posts. If its negative, its an “FUD” attempt. If it paints Apple in a positive light, then it is unquestionably accurate!
Am I lying?
No? Well there you go.
And way to chicken out looking for those quotes. You blew part of your day looking for them I’m sure, but then had to find a way to bail once you found out that they didn’t exist!
So sorry that fantasy didn’t match the facts.
Fair challenge. I'm out of town over the weekend but I'll take a look at your posting history on Apple threads some time soon and let you know whether I think it actually rises to the level of trolling. If I'm mistaken I'll be happy to admit it.
> any Microsoft article is open season for Apple and Linux people,
Well as you claimed in your comment #23, all non-caucus threads are "open season".
Now, it happens I have a good bit of experience with Microsoft articles, and certainly since cranking up the Windows Ping List. It's my observation that the overwhelming majority of negative comments about Windows on the Windows threads come from Windows users, either current or past. In the case of the past users, we can perhaps flip a coin as to whether, as past Windows users, they still have a right to complain, or whether as converts to something else they have relinquished their right to comment. I tend toward the former view in general.
I'll tell ya, when I started the ping list I was all prepared to deal with the sort of overwhelming, nasty crap that gets thrown at the Apple threads from non-Apple people.
Barely materialized. Yeah, the occasional "Get a Mac!" or "Linux rulez!" or "Windoze is teh suxorz", but in fact the number and ferocity is nothing like the anti-Apple comments on Apple threads. There's just no comparison. I suspect that the acknowledged huge ratio of Windows users to Mac users is the primary factor. More people, gonna have more trolls.
That said, I'm certainly willing to concede that this article was not just biased toward Apple, but that the headline was contextually misleading even if strictly speaking not factually inaccurate. I will give Swordmaker credit for calling it honestly in his comment, and that's why I jumped in when I did. But that's water over the bridge now.
I'm likely to be offline or nearly so for a couple of days, so see ya on the other side of Memorial Day. Cheers!
“I’m likely to be offline or nearly so for a couple of days, so see ya on the other side of Memorial Day. Cheers! “
Have a nice one, Dayglored!
Yes, yes you are.
Actually I’m not.
But feel free to lie to yourself.
Only if you're using Obamaphones.
I came, I saw the video, I saw the results, and another uber-ingorant flame war. I used to love tech threads on FR back when there where intellectuals hanging around. Not anymore, sadly. Why don’t you ban a couple of these knuckle-dragging tech arguers?
In these tests, both come out about equal...

Not at all. Have been a loyal AT&T customer since the early 90’s with my cell phone & service. Every year I am entitled to upgrades in phones which my wife always takes advantage of.Believe me, I pay for the phones, just indirectly. My point was that I do not pay additional out of pocket money for them anymore.
But, gravity and fate are fickle mistresses. I agree that you can engineer to IEC 60065, and we both know that phone manufacturers do exactly that. However, there are bound to be some obscure angle that they are susceptable to damage. So, the game becomes "Which one breaks first?", and this is now the game that people bet on. No matter how you revise the IEC spec, the laws of fate and gravity will find some exploit. Murphy always wins.
Another one of your patented brand of lies about me. As I pointed out in my ping to the Apple Ping List, which is not even mentioned in the article, it is the HTC 10 that comes out best in this scientifically designed drop test, not the iPhone 6S, which comes out second. That makes YOU a liar, but that's nothing new.
The Blackberry Curve line had an all plastic construction, including the screen. The iPhone SE has a Gorilla Glass 4 screen which is tough, but still breakable.
