I spent another morning knocking on doors for the Trump/Pence campaign and wanted to give my after action report.
For those of you who aren't aware, the gop is in charge of the "ground game" for Get Out The Vote (GOTV). What that means as a practical matter is that volunteers and a handful of paid staffers are knocking on doors, surveying potential voters, identifying people who are pro-Trump/ pro-gop and trying to bring in a November victory. I'm one of those volunteers knocking on doors.
Myself and my partner were assigned a fairly stable, working class neighborhood. And unlike last weekend, we found a lot of people at home. It was a really neat morning. Keep in mind that the idea here is to target the undecideds, soft gop and soft 'rat voters. If you're a strong gop or 'rat voter, we're not knocking on your door: there's really no point.
The demographics of this neighborhood were white, working class and I'm pleased to report that the folks we targeted were overwhelmingly in favor of Trump. Nice folks, even the 'rats who wouldn't vote for DJT on a bet were polite, shook my hand, and were relatively pleasant.
Some surprises:
- Gov McAuliffe's Felon Voters plan might not work out quite as he expected. I met one person who told me he would vote for Donald Trump if he could, but he couldn't because he was a convicted felon from many years ago. I was pleased to inform him that due to Gov. McAuliffe's action, he could register and vote in the election. I chatted it up afterwards and it turns out that others are running into that as well. We tend to assume that convicted felons who have their rights restored are a lock for the 'rats. That might need a serious rethink.
- Met a guy who was a Christian missionary in the middle east. His insights on islam were fascinating. What really got me was his discussion on how mohammedans proselytize and evangelize. That insight was worth the price of admission.
Not-so-surprises:
- This stable, working class area was a gop areas. I saw a lot of Trump signs and the folks we talked to who were identified as "soft" or "undecided" were very pro-Trump. I strongly believe that the future of the gop, if it is to have one, is with the working class. These are untilled fields, folks. It's up to us to till them.
- I'd say for this area it was 80/20 Trump. Of course that isn't reflective of this area as a whole or Virginia by a long shot. But it is heartening.
Finally a pitch: this is fun and fascinating work. If you can, you should walk some precincts and knock on doors. The internet is fine and dandy, but the real work and the real persuasion I think is done face to face. Truly it's knocking on doors and making calls now, or have a nightmare in November.

Some are elderly who lecture me on Trump’s sins.

But I think I got a few who were on the fence and it’s better to suffer a little now than a lot later.

But if you have some people you're working with who are less thrilled about knocking on the doors of private residences, here's an alternative.
Find an area in Pokemon Go which has multiple pokestops in a close area. Purchase the in game currency to buy the lure modules (the $99 coin packs provide the most value.) Place a table with information on it and people ready to meet others at the center, and place the lure modules on the pokestops. You now have a flashing neon sign for players (and their families) to come to you for roughly $3 an hour.
If you don't mind spending a bit more, bring along a couple insulated coolers with fruit punch and water in them plus some stacks of paper cups purchased at the local bulk store. Perhaps gather up USB charges and offer to help recharge phones while people are playing - and oh, while they're standing there, let's talk about Trump.
It won't be long before the liberals not only figure out they too can do this, but that they also will actually have to pay to do it like everyone else; jump the gun and get in there first.
Thanks for the work you are doing, and for the report. Re: the felon thing, it’s a numbers game the dems have studied well. At least half will be black, if nationwide stats hold there, that hunk goes 90% plus to dems, while other felons probably split 50-50, so that gives dems about 3/4 of the total felon vote, at least.
First, the emphasis placed on evangelization. They really do work on it through charities for the poor, assisting with setting up hospitals. They try with a honey and kindness approach first. Then a political approach. And then finally, they resort to the sword.
They are relentless. And the only way to convert mohammedans seems to be use of a similar approach. But absent a dream or mystical event (which is apparently very important to mohammedans), they don’t convert.
Seems that prayer then is a much stronger weapon for us in that context.
We track everyone we talk to. Goes into a database. The idea being we spend the time working the undecideds and soft pro Trump. No point in dealing with the hitlery fan club.
Door to door campaigning is highly effective and can be a lot of fun.
Depends on how they play it and IF their targeted demographic actually shows up to register and vote.
My opinion: people vote their tribe, not their rapsheet.

That is a good report. You are doing fine work and thank you for that. This is the most important election in our countries history IMO. Pence brings great conservative credentials and a softening of the image which I think will appeal to many. I think the convention will give us a great bump especially if the Soros communists and illegal alien lovers hurt any innocent people. We will see. I do not wish for that but I expect they will . I am impressed so far with the effort of law enforcement . They have a good strategy and good back up. We will see.

You are working in a somewhat safe and convivial area. Where I am at, the police are recommending that residents not to open the door unless they know who is on the other side or it is a prearranged appointment. Home invasions are a real danger.
I know of one vote that McAwful made availlable to Trump.
