Ted Cruz contemplates the unthinkable
Politico ^ | 7/18/2016 | Glenn Thrush

Still smarting from his loss in the primary, Cruz says he’ll use his convention speech to outline his own vision of the Republican Party’s future. But will he endorse?

One of these days, and maybe soon, Ted Cruz just might have to endorse Donald Trump.

But he’ll never concede Trump could have beaten him in a fair fight — and he’ll never accept that Trump’s me-first philosophy represents a sustainable future for the GOP. Above all, Cruz wants to use the big stage in Cleveland to present a non-Trump alternative vision for his party’s future, one rooted in constitutional conservative principles and competent campaign management modeled, oddly enough, on Barack Obama’s 2008 and 2012 White House runs.

“In this election I am where a great many voters are, which is that I am listening and watching and coming to a decision,” Cruz, the highest-profile Trump holdout heading into this week’s convention, told me when I asked him if he intended to throw his support behind the former reality TV star imminently.

Cruz should never have been given a speaking slot without an upfront endorsement of Trump. The guy has no integrity so who knows what he will say?

I do think his natural tendencies are far more ‘liberal’ than I personally think are wise for USA right now Time will tell.

It is impossible for me to believe he lied about rebuilding the nation. I don't care about anything else except preserving the Republic and the American Dream.

SCOTUS pick, Boarders and fair trade deals are the only filter I'm applying. The rest is meaningless to me.

We can nick pick social issues after we have a Nation worth nit picking.

Cruz looks more and more like a Benedict Arnold - his personal ambition exceeds whatever he seems to stand for.

Live near DC and heard he was like this from the connected but didn't believe them. Now I have to think they were right. (Damn but so goes it. Pols lie.)

One year ago I held Ted Cruz and Bill Lee in the highest esteem.

Today I wouldn’t vote for either for dog catcher.

Turned out they are both whining dicks.

Not that this seems to matter to him, but Ted Cruz has exactly one chance to earn back a bare modicum of conceded respect. This is how: in his speech, he thanks Trump for giving him the opportunity to speak, then wholeheartedly fulfills his pledge by unequivocally endorsing him. If he does not do this, no reasonable person could support him for any position in public service, elected or unelected.

You’re insulting the memory of Benedict Arnold by comparing him to Fredo.

Trump needs to demand Cruz go on record, in front of cameras TONITE and demand Cruz endorses him. If Cruz refuses - he will not be speaking at the convention period!!

I predict he will vaguely say we need Hillary to lose, then launch into the first campaign speech for 2016 hoping Trump loses and he runs against HRC in 16.
