A team of researchers recently published a study that proposes a new model on how violent human behavior may be impacted by a warmer climate.
The paper, published in the journal, "Behavioral and Brain Sciences" by faculty at The Ohio State University and Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, introduced a model of Climate, Aggression and Self-control in Humans (CLASH) that seeks to understand "differences within and between countries in aggression and violence in terms of differences in climate."
"We believe our model can help explain the impact of climate on rates of violence in different parts of the world," Paul van Lange, lead author of the study, said in a statement through Ohio State.
The model suggests people who live closer to the equator, where the weather is warmer and there is less temperature variability, have more of a focus on the present, according to Brad Bushman, a co-author of the study and professor of communication and psychology at Ohio State.

And everybody had to work to make it through the winter. It’s a good point. It was an adaptation the early Caucasians had to make to live in snowy climes. Simply not necessary, or even something you would think about if you lived in early India or something.
Then there’s the slight problem of the USSR where more people died a violent death than anywhere else on earth in the 20th century ... I do accept though that heat will give more opportunity for anyone prone to violence to act on their urges, that is fairly obvious anyway and doesn’t need a study. I don’t have any numbers handy but would be willing to bet there’s more gang-related deaths in Chicago in summer than in winter. But the cause and effect is likely more the absence of cold than the presence of heat so I would not be so willing to guess how spring and autumn compare to summer, probably not much if any difference. Once the outside temperature is warm enough to hang about in the outdoors or drive around with car windows open, the violence is more likely to happen. So when you get past that limiting thresh-hold the rates may not increase much. Extreme heat might actually lower the rates, gangstas would prefer to chill in the A/C of a bar or mall probably.
Thanks. I reported it so it can be fixed.
Well, it would explain the Florida man phenomenon...
Chicago may not be near the equator, but isn’t it strange that the VIOLENCE there seems to peak with the advent of the summer HEAT?
I KNOW nothing, but I think is it the EXTREME HEAT at the equator that causes humans to react so.
Could it be the human body and mind react aggresively when constantly exposed to the extremes of temperature? Isn’t life in the extreme NORTHERN climate adversely affected by the extreme, prolonged bitter COLD.
Violence increases during any prolonged heat wave, no matter where is occurring.
I just think as I, too, react badly to extreme heat, and I live in New England.
I blame it on sunspots and navel lint.
Link no good.
Primitive humans
I reported it. They have to fix it.
The Wehrmacht Landser oustide Moscow in December 1941 would disagree with this theory.
“Last I heard Chicago wasnt anywhere near the equator.”
The violence in northern cities is 90%+ due to descendents from near the equator. And violence increases during warmer months
You would have thought the invention of air conditioning would have fixed this. :>
The equator violence seems much less predictive than root cultures. Now, Islam and drug production/transport does have a clear relationship with violence.
But Chicongo is more violent in the summer time. I also noticed when I was in high school that there were NEVER any fights on cold, rainy days. NEVER.
But then you are stuck in the house and that begets domestic violence.
Recall the equator affect and tropical lethargy...

Skin color has a direct relationship to the equator too.
Will this be used to push the climate change agenda? “The warming of the planet will lead to more violence,” will be the reasoning. I hate it when I can think like a liberal.
Just like a$$holes.
