Brazilian police say Ryan Lochte and three other swimmers who claimed they were robbed had in fact destroyed a gas station toilet and refused to pay for the damage until a security guard waved a gun at them, DailyMail.com can disclose. A source with knowledge of the investigation said the four handed over money after the guard at the gas station insisted they pay. The version of events emerged as police in Rio prepared to quiz the taxi driver who picked up the four after they left a nightclub and resume questioning the three swimmers still in Brazil.

“A gas station has an armed security guard?”

35 years ago I went there for my honeymoon. Our tour guide (a 30 year old woman) and full time driver (huge black guy) both carried. I’m not rich; Rio was cheap back then.

There was a sawed off 12 ga under the back seat that kept coming out whenever he hit the brakes, which was what got the conversation started. Friggin thing had one in the pipe with the safety OFF.

I quietly flicked it ON.

Just saw BBC News add that the guys damaged the restroom door “due to an altercation”.

Is whatever they (presumably) did worth months/years in a prison in Brazil?

This could still all be a shake down. Being robbed of all your cash is very common in Rio. I had three fellow members of a team I was on get robbed at knife point. They took all their cash and gave them back their wallets.

SMH until it is about to come off of my red neck.

Rio may be a trashy place. There is still no excuse for Americans to trash it any worse. Even if soused to the gills. And why are would-be famous athletes getting rip roaring drunk, not just a nip with dinner?

SNH, SMH, SMH

“File a complaint with the OC and the OC can demand the coach pay $200 to install a new toilet.”

Maybe, for some reason the “OC” is not the judicial authority in Brazil.

Could be worse. Could be Singapore.

Say what you will about Singapore... hardly anybody dares to trash it. At least not twice. “You trash us, we thrash you.”

That question will be answered by a Brazilian court.

Time to wait for the facts. The same as Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, etc., I be slow to place blame at this point on anyone. Let the facts come out.

So it took the Brazilian scum days to come up with this story? I don’t buy it.

I hate to sound like a sterotype on this, but as long as I’ve known swimmers, it comes down to them usually being these upper class snobs, who tend to lie.

I played football and baseball in HS. I had friends on the swim team, but they were their own little click of guys. They were pompous @sshats.

Now you have what appears to be a bold face lie told to the media. Didn’t we have the same thing with Mr. Olympian himself, smoking marijuana?

I think the Brazilian are not going to let the media give them a black eye, just because a couple young puck Americans are not telling the truth.

I remember a gas station in Capira, Panama that had a sign pointing to toilet. When you followed the path out back, the back wall was concrete blocks partially covered by tile about waist high. LOL.

“File a complaint with the OC and the OC can demand the coach pay $200 to install a new toilet.”

Otherwise it could cost a shitload more.

"I don’t know if I would file a police report in some countries, either."

I've been in third world countries where the police weren't even paid a salary, but lived of of the fines they collected from "law breakers." In addition to that, these cops had to purchase this police job from the Province or District Chief and he got a cut of every fine they collected. To protect yourselves from this, an American had to go to the Province or District Chief and purchase a "Get out of Jail Free Card," and the cops would then leave you alone. This system of "law enforcement" is known as "Bakish"(SP)in some countries.

Of course not but it would be less costly and take less man hours on Brazil’s part.
