Back in the day, when we had thirteen channels (okay, eight because three were duplicate networks, one was color bars and another just snow) the Jerry Lewis Telethon was something of an event.
It was a mix of fun (some big names used to show up), kitsch (Charo was a yearly spectacle) and uncomfortable humor (watching hosts stretch for time and people not used to being on TV present checks). Plus, you could find something new and live to watch at two a.m.!
One more memory from “back then”.
Dr. Joel Wallach showed Jerry Lewis his nutritional cure for Muscular Dystrophy, and the MDA decided that actually curing MD was not in their best interests.
90 years old and still going.

Biggest scam out there
Hate to tell you but Dr Joel Wallach really speaks and preaches about his products very well... he is about as reliable as a Climate Scientist at this point.
He has yet to prove anything but I wish him the best and YES I use “some” of his products and a large part of his diet.
He lost me when he teamed up with Alex Jones and then they split and Alex started his own supplement line. He made some Military claims that I have not been able to verify and the number of necropsy’s (animal autopsy’s) may be a stretch.
I still think he is on to something but the “Big Tent on the Road” and Multi-level marketing approach to deliver his message instead of competing with status quo ...
Best fix I can get on him is that he is on the right track but he puts marketing and collecting $ in front of the research to really get the job done, other folks can pick it up and do the studies.

My family and I used to try to stay awake for the entire broadcast and every kid i knew tried to raise money for this.Then no Jerry Lewis,and then no telethon.Something good has died.Where are they today? Did they find a cure?
What channel is this on nowadays. I remember seeing usually on one of the local channels but the past few years I have not seen it.
There may be change drops by cash registers at the supermarket check-out, but other than that, MDA died when Lewis was removed as it's national spokesman.

Of course! Snake oil salesman who has beaten the FDA every time they sued him. Monsanto, Bristol-Myers-Squibb, etc. don’t like him. Ask Andrew Young about his knee replacement surgery. Look at video of street scenes in America in the 1940s and 1950s. Look at street scenes today. Something has changed.
There are a little over 50,000 American affected with the disease.
Each year 500-600 newborns are affected. Jerry collected over $2,000,000,000.00 Where’s the cure?
Doc Wallach cured my degenerative disk disease in 3 months. I am no longer pre-diabetic nor hypoglycemic. So I became a distributor because the product WORKS. My clients lose, weight, get off of insulin, sleep better, and their arthritis goes away. They also (every one of them) recover their energy. My wife got rid of carpal tunnel syndrome and chronic fatigue. If that is selling snake oil, give me a warehouse full.
So, when faced with any skepticism, the proof is in the pudding. Not bad for the greatest comparative pathologist of our time. That is the antithesis of a snake oil salesman-- his stuff works.
I note the skeptics leave out he was a nominee for the Nobel Prize, he has beaten the FDA in court 9 times (soon to be 10, and no one has ever done that), independent studies confirm his products (Clemson University is only one), and his work on veterinary medicine and the prevention of diseases is a national treasure: it is in the Smithsonian Institute because it is the foundation for all veterinary medicine for animal nutrition.
Just recently, the University of Ireland confirmed that cholesterol medicine is worthless. Dr. Wallach has been saying that for over 40 years. So who is selling the snake oil?
But don't think for yourself. Let Big Pharma tell you what to believe. They love your money and could care less if you get off your prescription meds.
