By the middle of the century, the “th” sound will have vanished from the English spoken in London due to the high level of immigrants who cannot pronounce it, linguists have said. In a study that shows the impact immigration is having on the English language, academics at the University of York say that Estuary English, the dialect currently spoken in London and south east England, will gradually be replaced by a heavily migrant-influenced English.

Those two letters used in Old English are still used in modern Icelandic.

The English are the worst speakers of the English language. The Irish, who were forced to learn English, speak much better English than the English do.

“I always wondered by Thames is pronounced “Tims””

The same reason “Thomas” is pronounced “Tom-iss”. Even in traditional English, how you pronounce “th” depends on context.

The name ‘Anthony’ is pronounced ‘Antony’ in Britain.

Those are two different names that are spelled differently. Maybe some people mix them up.

Ah, once upon a time, long, long ago, immigrants to America tried to fit in.

Those days are now long gone.

“Linguists have also predicted that the future direction of English will be determined in India, simply by the sheer number of speakers.”

Nonsense, because there is little direct contact between Indian English speakers and other English speakers. In order for there to be influence, there must be constant and sustained contact.

‘Th’ is already replaced with a ‘v’ in parts of England.

In Wales and Cornwall they speak like that. The Cockney accent does that too sometimes.

Veddy, veddy good! I am standing here beside my self with joy to be knowing this.

My wife is Thai. "Squirrel" is pronounced something like "screw" or "suhkwhir" or "scrrrl". She murders the sq in front and can't quite get the ending l.

Irish immigrants couldn’t pronounce the ‘th’ which is why New Yorkers used to say ‘turty-turd-and-turd” rather than thirty third and third.

In Ireland they still pronounce 'thousand' as 'tousand'.

I got stuck going to “speech counseling” at school because one teacher who didn’t like me claimed I had a lisp. Nobody else heard it, not my parents, my friends, or other teachers, but because she claimed she heard it I had to go to that BS for a year with 2 black kids who had actual stuttering issues. Even the speech therapist didn’t think I had any issues.

Oh well, I got to go play “Operation” and stuff while others kids were stuck in class, so I guess I shouldn’t complain.

Rush Limbaugh just played an audio of Michelle Obama saying “gut” rather than “good.” Princeton & Harvard and she still can’t pronounce English properly.

Here’s a language change that’s been in the works.
........

Europe English
The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the EU rather than German which was the other possibility.

As part of the negotiations, Her Majesty’s Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a five year phase-in plan that would be known as “Euro-English”.

In the first year, “s” will replace the soft “c”. Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard “c” will be dropped in favour of the “k”. This should klear up konfusion and keyboards kan have 1 less letter.

There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year, when the troublesome “ph” will be replaced with “f”. This will make words like “fotograf” 20% shorter.

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be ekspekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will enkorage the removal of double letters, which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horible mes of the silent “e”s in the language is disgraseful, and they should go away.

By the fourth year, peopl wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing “th” with “z” and “w” with “v”. During ze fifz year, ze unesesary “o” kan be dropd from vords kontaining “ou” and similar changes vud of kors be aplid to ozer kombinations of leters.

After zis fifz yer, ve vil hav a reli sensibl riten styl. Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi to understand ech ozer. Ze drem vil finali kum tru! And zen world!
