I agree with one commenter at the posted link.
Cats sleep,alot.
Here mine falls asleep sitting up.
They are not slow blinking they are trying to stay awake.

Bottom line if they are comfortable falling asleep around you then your cool with them.
This little one wont sit long enough for the original poster to even try this approach.
Its too scared. Accept it.

Also agree with another poster.
Cats live by sight and smell. This new one smells the old one everywhere and is afraid its soon to get its ass kicked when it shows up.
Way too much psychoanalyzing cats here IMO.
Cats don’t care about anything other than eating and staying alive.

Put out food, close off dangerous hiding spaces like behind cellar walls and leave the damn thing alone.
If it comes a round fine.If not, its not a good pet so get rid of it.

Kitten might not have been thoroughly socialized. IT would take time, but you might be able to do it. Otherwise, taking it back to shelter is a sure euthanization. IF you had 2 though, one that was 100% socialized, it would help socializing the other one much more quickly.

You should have 2 cats anyway. They are healthier and happier when they have a mate.

Otherwise, taking it back to shelter

I didn't get her from a shelter, she has been fostered thru an agent of a local rescue agency and has been in her household since June..........

Wow, 20 minutes of unmitigated kitten cuteness... I am thunderstruck. Everything is much better now.

Thank you both SO MUCH!

Ha! You’re obviously doing things right if she’s warming up to you so well.

My previous kitty Pearl was 2 when I brought her home. Before that, she was my vet tech’s “basement cat” because she would fight her senior cat if they were together. So not a bright beginning for us when she disappeared completely w/in 24 hours of my bringing her home. I thought I was going to have to report to the VT that somehow her kitty slipped out the door & was gone forever!

Turns out she’d secreted herself inside the guts of the hide-a-bed sofa. Much as you’ve reported, not sociable, no sign there’s even a cat in the house.

Eventually she warmed to me enough to come cuddle for snoozing on my chest & a belly rub at bedtime. But always hid for company.

Years later when her compromised kidneys required holding her captive to force pills down her throat... her unhappiness over that played a part in my decision to end her suffering. But she had a happy life w/ me before that. No regrets.

For you I’d add a toy-on-string-on-a-stick so she can satisfy her play urges w/out fear of your hands, if she’s still skittish. You know how kittens get the big crazy eyes sometimes but it becomes a play session? Otherwise, it looks like your relationship is going great.

I was concerned about her not eating but last night I set out a bowl of hard cat food which she ate. Apparently that's what she was used to at her foster home.....

She feels comfortable when I'm in bed and she walks all over me all night long but as soon as I get out of bed, she's back in hiding. Much of the house is now sealed off to her so her only escape place is under the bed..........that's ok.
