2nd Fire in Apple iPhone 7 Threatens Mass Recall
Associated Press — through Breitbart News ^ | 21 Oct 2016 | by CHRISS W. STREET

(Marcio Jose Sanchez / Associated Press)

Another newly shipped Apple iPhone 7 caught fire and destroyed a car in what looks similar to the same type of battery fires that forced a worldwide recall of all Samsung Galaxy Note 7 units.

Australian surfing instructor Mat Jones says that he left his week-old iPhone 7 covered by a pair of pants in his car while he went out to give a lesson.

When Jones came back from surfing, he immediately noticed that all the windows of his car were blacked-out. As Jones opened the car’s door, he was hit by a big heat wave, and then smoke started billowing out of the vehicle.

The hyperbolic headline is pure clickbait FUD. Actually the first spontaneous fire in an iPhone 7 is not a case for a massive recall. The first fire the headline is referencing occurred when an iPhone 7 was severely damaged in shipping, impacting the Lithium Ion battery inside the iPhone, a known cause of any Lithium Ion battery fire failures. The box that iPhone was shipped in looked as if it had been crushed and penetrated by a massive force. It was anything but spontaneous.

This is the first FUD article of FUD Season, which occurs during the three weeks around any Apple product announcement or major Apple event. A major Apple product announcement is schedules for next week when Apple will be unveiling their new Macs. Ergo, Fed Season.

An Apple iPhone 7 has apparently spontaneously burst into flame inside a car in Australia. . . but that is no excuse for the hyperbolic headline hinting a massive recall in the vein of Samsung's Note 7 recall. There are already tens of millions of the iPhone 7 and 7 plus on the market and in reality only ONE has allegedly spontaneously burst into flame. The other referred to in the headline was one that had been so damaged in shipping that the iPhone inside the shipping box had been penetrated by some object that had penetrated the battery and Lithium Ion batteries WILL catch fire when so damaged. . . it's the nature of the beasts. It was not a spontaneous fire, unless you count hitting it with a Mack truck spontaneous. — PING!

Thanks to Amigatec for the head's up. Pinging ThunderSleeps for the Android list.

Can Apple make a product that does NOT catch on fire and kill people?

Jeez, how hard is that to do?

Is this the waterproof iphone? If it is the solution is simple, keep it in a bowl of water in the car. ;)

It depends upon whether the LIPO batteries installed in the phone have a protection circuit or not.

Protection circuits add cost to the production of LIPO batteries. One way to reduce production costs is to eliminate the PCB from the batteries.

The downside to this is that batteries burst into flames.

Water doesn't put out LIPO fires. ;(

I can't think of an Apple product that HAS caught on fire and killed people, so yes, they can. I think you are referring to Samsung and their Galaxy Note 7.

The iPhones survived that USB killer device that is supposed to kill any computer or device it's plugged in to. . . because they DO have a charging protection circuit, and an isolation system.

I am anxiously awaiting Apple to announce a Partnership with SolidEnergy which would 2 revolutionary things. First double the energy density of the battery, and secondly it would make Lithium ion batteries safe. This company managed to change the ingredients. But not the basic manufacturing steps in making batteries; that makes them non-combustible. Simply said, the new components do not burn; yet manage to store double the energy.

Yes but would it keep it cool enough so it didn’t light off?. What would work better a bowl off sand?

You really shouldn’t t post on technical topics.

Your juvenile attempts at debate just make you look more foolish to others, than you probably are. At least I hope so. Best to remain silent and let the adults do the talking and try to learn.

Basics first, because you seem to not grasp the essentials.

Counterfeiting ANYONE is wrong. Even Apple. If this company is making counterfeit Apple Components, then they are likely making and selling other counterfeit components too (HP, Samsung, Sony, etc)

See how easy this is when an adult explains this to you?

Now, sit back and try to keep up; and learn
