DELTONA, FL (WKMG/CNN) - A squirrel got into a retirement home, injuring at least three people and prompting a call to 911 on Thursday.
"It's jumping on people and biting them and scratching them," the 911 caller said. "It's still in there, and people are bleeding."
People can be heard in the background asking each other if they are all right.
The attack happened around 2 p.m., the woman telling dispatch people are bleeding and need help.
"I don' t know if we need an ambulance, but we need some care for people here," the 911 caller said. "The people are bleeding."
In the background of the call, people are heard breathing heavily, saying they don't feel well.
The caller finally said people had gotten to safety, in the office and lobby, after the squirrel was thrown out.

That’s the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the headline. Such a fun song.

Kentucky Doctors Warn Against a Regional Dish: Squirrels’ Brains
Yeah....Mr. Tough Guy Squirrel.....attacking people in a rest home.
Why don’t you come here and play tough guy with me?
I’ll mop the floor up with you!
I’ll.......wait a minute.....what’s that at the back door?
It’s Sammy.....Sammy the squirrel.....
Heh heh.....just kidding Sammy.
Yeah, I know who really owns the back yard.
Put that switchblade away!
I’m sorry!
Really! I’m sor
Our Weimaraners, we’ve had over the years, all chased squirrels. The female we had was patient and stalked them, even if it took 30 minutes...and she caught a lot of squirrels. The male Weims we’ve had all think they can just run after them and catch them, and of course they hardly ever catch a squirrel. One time the female didn’t grab the squirrel quite right and it fought back, the dog had a bite and a pretty scratched up face.
I called the vet, just wondering about infection. My vet said due to a squirrel’s diet, they are very low on causing infection from a bite, or scratch, due to their diet. I hadn’t thought of the reason they don’t usually get rabies until you presented it. I learn something new every day :)
My dog,a springer spaniel caught a squirrel, stood and looked at me with the squirrel in it’s mouth, and then very, very rapidly, shook his head back and forth twice and the squirrel’s neck was broken.
He then placed it on the ground and the squirrel didn’t have a mark on him.
.
One of my sisters was bitten by a squirrel when she was in high school. I don’t think that anything was done to catch the squirrel, because it would have been almost impossible to identify it.
...immediate brought to mind a police line up of squirrels... just set me off laughing, cuz friday.
damn squirrels again
That’s how our dog would kill them. You really couldn’t stop her, once she grabbed one, she shook it and it was dead.
However, our dog would proudly parade around with the squirrel in her mouth. Every single time she caught one it was the same drill, parade around, head held high, and then go to some far away part of the property and bury it.
I never researched what kind of behavior that was, or if it was just specific to her. But if you’d give her a larger edible treat in the house, she’d travel the whole house, more than once, and then finally decide on a hiding place. We had her as a pup, so it wasn’t a learned behavior, rather it was something that was hard wired in...she also sucked blankets...but that is a Weim behavior that many have.
LOL!!

A bit of a showoff,eh? :-)

“this squirrels behavior does not sound normal”
Being stuck in a human structure is not a normal situation for a squirrel, so you shouldn’t expect normal behavior. A wild animal in that situation is going to be very scared and defensive, and squirrels are naturally very jumpy and high strung anyway, so if you get them scared in a strange place, they go (pardon the pun) a bit nuts.
The squirrel reportedly had been punching voter cards for Hillary Clinton for a week with its teeth and something just snapped!
“of course they hardly ever catch a squirrel”
Yeah, I have seen squirrels get away from full speed divebombing hawks, so most land-based predators don’t stand much of a chance chasing them. Between their reflexes, their random evasive maneuvers, and their jumping/climbing ability, you’d really have to catch them off guard in order to get one.
“My vet said due to a squirrels diet, they are very low on causing infection from a bite, or scratch, due to their diet.”
Makes sense to me. They are technically omnivores, but the only meat I have ever seen them eat (that wasn’t human garbage) are caterpillars. They LOVE to munch on caterpillars, they even prefer those over nuts.
Good grief. It’s a squirrel. Have these folks never seen a squirrel before? Leave the door open, be calm and he’ll find his way out without a fuss.
Our cats let on loose in the house at least once a week.
I would guess rabies.
