If it's too cute to be true, it probably is.

The owner of a Manitoba dog sanctuary, whose dog was the subject of a heartwarming viral video with a polar bear, told CBC News that a bear has killed and eaten one of his dogs.

The viral clip, which was posted online over the weekend, showed an enormous polar bear stroking a lounging dog on the head for several fascinating and adorable moments.

While many were awed by the unlikely friendship, conservation officers were called to remove three polar bears from Mile 5 Dog Sanctuary in Churchill, Man., last week, CBC News reported.

It’s always only a matter of time before appetite trumps the maternal instinct.

We need to institute a polar bear ban until we can figure out what the hell is going on.

The bear in the video was tenderly checking how tender the dog was...

Goes along with the old saying that the lion may lie down with the lamb, but the lamb won’t get much sleep.

Yup. Clearly the dog's language was not playful to anyone that's ever observed dogs play. "I'm drowning, not waving!"

Sickening story.

American zoos are the worst offenders.

“You Tube” is more like “Look at ME Tube”.

Sometimes cute things happen with animals; but this is
simply NAIVE & has to involve a liberal vegetarian.

A while back, a skunk broke into our dog’s night pen &
cornered her in her dog house; was rubbing noses with the
dog. We fixed the hole where the skunk wiggled into the pen.

It was “cute”; but DUB didn’t like it all that much. When
you have to share space with all sorts of wild animals,
you learn to face FACTS and don’t try to turn them all
into cuddly teddy bears OR a “You Tube” video.

I love all animals...but I love MY animals, more.

If one of them is a threat to one of mine, they need to lose.

I may hate it but it will be done.

YouTube is a mixed bag.
So many great things on there but also people endangering animals and kids for “hits”.
Monetizing YouTube was possibly not a great idea.

Years ago, when we visited a zoo in our state, two of the
big cats were doing a sort of repetitive routine that
looked like a circus routine. I asked if they had been in
a circus. Someone told me, “No. This is simply manic
behavior from having been confined in a cage for so long.”

Nashville has one where they’re kept outside in a larger
outdoor situation. Better but not ideal.

When our son was little, the zoo in Memphis kept their
hippos in a pool with horizontal “restraining” bars above
them. Son was sort of “energetic” back then; and ran in
under the bars - almost fell into the pool before I could
get oriented to my surroundings. Come to think of it; there
were other less than ideal situations lots of places - but
I didn’t complain. (Back when I was a kid; there was an
old filthy rich woman who used to have her chauffeur drive
around that zoo near the sandbox and kidnap little kids and
adopt them out to rich parents. My parents always watched
me like hawks.)

The dog did not seem entirely comfortable in the first video.

The dog gets it, even though the stupid, liberal, Walt Disney-ized, people don't.

Wild animals are wild.

chuckle. I didn’t know there were Moderate polar bears.
If it smells like meat, they eat it.

Gee, you think maybe feeding polar bears might possibly be a BAD idea?

Oh, never mind.

Every time I see one of these “cute” videos of humans interacting with bears, lions, etc., I think to myself: “the animal only has to be in a bad mood one time for this to end badly.”
