Everyone from Fenwick’s clan were trying to conceal him until the Democrat among them walked up.

You must have never seen the movie Sparticus? See the version with Kirk Douglas as Sparticus. It’s quite good.

Yes BUT,

we do not see where the strap holders are on the shield now, do we ?

So this truly COULD be a shield with horizontal stripes, and not vertical.

Which begs, who DID have the shield with the horizontal stripes, and why did the doofus NOT have his ?

Illuminati ? Trump Effect ? CIA ?? The RUSSIANS ???

And so, perhaps Southwest Airlines is sending us all a coded message...stay away from the inauguration......

If your name is "Fenwick"

“I thought it was a commercial for fly rods.”

There was the commercial where the guy is listening to the football game in his car and the baby throws up. He goes around back and finds his only towel is a football fan towel. It then shows the clean fan towel on the front seat and him shirtless, cheering on his team on the radio again. It was a commercial for the NFL.

My wife: “Was that commercial just for the NFL?”

“Um, yeah.”

“It should be a car commercial. He just paused the game on his radio and picked it back up where he left off. How cool is THAT!?”

I have to agree with you...

The “punchline” is easy to understand but the overall message is lost in the buildup. It’s especially poor marketing for anyone who has not seen the original movie, which is probably most of their target market (ages 35 to 44), unless of course they realize nobody under the age of 45 has disposable income, which is highly likely.

My wife and I easily discerned the message but the humor was old, stale, predictable and evoked eye-rolling from both of us. I just asked if she remembered the brand for the commercial and neither of us could recall despite seeing it at least 1/2 dozen times today.

It’s poor marketing and somebody along the line approved the expense!

Like a joke, any advertising requiring explanation at the end, missed the mark.

You bring up some good points. Somberly, I must conclude that it was the Russians!

I get the “Fenwick” ad. I still don’t get the Cialis ad with two people in separate bathtubs. Even a Cialis rep couldn’t explain it.

According to the dialog, the apparent leader of the victorious side will spare the losers if they give him “Fenwick.” Out of (perhaps misplaced) loyalty many of the captives claim to be Fenwick, defying the demand to turn Fenwick over (h/t to Spartacus). Then some clueless dolt starts complaining about the orientation of his shield’s bars. The whole point is that the solution to his complaint is obvious and his cluelessness undoes the noble sacrifices of his comrades. I found it mildly amusing and blazingly obvious.

Actually, if he rotates his shield to change his vertical stripes to horizontal, wouldn’t the bracing and hand grip on the back side be out of place?

Finally someone who understands that a shield is not just a piece of wood.

You can’t rotate a shield unless you change the straps.

Easy. Fenwick is a quirky section of Old Saybrook, CT called a borough, at the mouth of the Connecticut River, where it flows into Long Island Sound. It was made famous by Kate Hepburn; she found refuge there throughout her life/career.

Hepburn had the habit of taking a daily dip no matter the season.

That's my *true* Fenwick story and I'm stickin' to it.
