One of the amazing things about Shyamalan is his ability to make you believe in a plot that when you afterwards think about it you realize was completely absurd. Signs, for example, has aliens for whom water is poisonous cross the galaxy to invade a planet and kidnap creatures whose composition is 70% H2O. And having the technology necessary to cross said galaxy they are defeated by a locked door, a baseball bat, and a glass of water. Despite all that, the filming and editing sent thrills and chills down the spines of the audience, and left them cheering "Yeah, Merrill, swing away!". That kind of suspension of disbelief is brilliant. And he appears to enjoy working with Conservative actors since besides featuring Mel Gibson in the above, two of his best, Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, starred Bruce Willis.

LOL. Gibson is a huge Three Stooges fan. Even produced the made-for-tv movie about them.

My mom’s favorite is, “The Year of living Dangerously.” I think it’s a great one too.

The "troubled" actor???

Troubled is not the same as disgusted with the Hollyweird power structure.

MAD MAX: THE ROAD WARRIOR is far and away his best, and I give a lot of credit to George Miller for that. BRAVEHEART I found to be a long bloody slog.

I saw Apocalytpo on DVD after I went to the Mayan city of Tikal in Guatemala. Gibson’s recreation of that civilization was amazing.

Have been to Tikal but have not seen Apocalypto. Have to take care of that.

Same here. When you really examine it, there is very little dialog in that movie that is throwaway. Almost everything refers to something that is made known later in the film.

I’ve liked a lot of Gibson’s films, but two stand out in regard to his actual acting.

Number two is We Were Soldiers. Number one, IMO, is The heart of Darkness.

For awhile Gibson was going to follow up The Passion of the Christ with a historical drama about the Maccabean revolt against Antiochus Epiphanes.

That would be a brutal, brutal film. Maybe he'll make it eventually.

Yes, to reinforce my disgust for the whole industry and the Narcissists that make millions and use their stage to try to dictate their wisdom on all the little people on issues that they are clueless about. I don’t mind paying a reasonable price for two hours of entertainment, but I don’t want to pay for their opinions as well when they generally don’t know a damn thing except how to professionally appear to be something that they are not. If you want to support that, then that is fine and your perogative. I personally enjoy learning through reading and get enjoyment from that. It has to be a really good movie for me to invest the time and money on it. In my opinion, seizing a beer is much more relaxing and fulfilling for entertainment than financing Hollywood charalatans.

Loved Gallipoli.

Those Aussie sure know how to end a movie. That ending and Breaker Morant were two of the most shocking endings in the movies, along with Wicker Man also starring Edward Woodward.

Heard Gibson was interested in doing a movie about Boudica . a queen of the British Celtic Iceni tribe who led an uprising against the occupying forces of the Roman Empire.
