Goodbye, Brass?

Let’s skip the appetizer and get right to the meat and potatoes of a manufacturer’s claims for a new cartridge case technology to replace the 150-year reign of brass. Here’s what Shell Shock Technologies (SST) says about their two-piece, nickel-aluminum-stainless steel 9mm Luger NAS3 cases:

•Stronger, cheaper and half the weight of brass.
•Greater corrosion resistance.
•More internal volume.
•More consistent ignition.
•+P velocities without +P pressures.
•Cases won’t stretch, no trimming required.
•Withstands 40 or more reloadings.
•Picks up with a magnet.
•Can be anodized different colors for instant ID.

I'm not a shooter, but I read a lot and understand the re-loading technology.

Everything in this bullet point list is enticing ... even the color coding.

It'll all depend on price/cost.

If the cost of ammo REALLY comes down, y'got a FORD (any color as long as it's black ... cheap enough for average family), WINNAHHHH !

I'd like to see an experiment crimping the outer diameter rather than the flash hole diameter.

Nickel reacts with most gun cleaning compounds. Anyone who has used hoppes #9 on a nickel plated gun and ruined it can tell you that.

I’ll wait till it’s been around a while. In the mean time I have enough Brass squirreled away to keep me in ammo for the rest of my life.

Definitely need some extended testing to see how this shakes out. For now, brass is just fine.
